Default 98 Trans am vs 03 mustang GT

First, here is the story.

My TA at the time only had the slp intake. I bought the car used so as far as I know nothing else has been done.

Mustang GT Manual- No muffler is all he would say he did to the car.

1st run we went from a dig. His car never pulled away from me I ended up pulling away from him. I can't remeber at what Mph did I pull away sorry. Over 2 years ago..

2nd run we go from a roll around 20 mph. He actually hits the gas a split second before me. I hit the gas spend tires leave the mustang in the dust.

Question is.. Is the what most people experience when they raced a mustang gt with similiar mods or do you think my car may not have been stock?

I have had a few guys say they think something else was done to my car before I purchased it. anyway car is gone now but I've always wondered.

Thanks for the help.

Yep, its pretty common. I ran a 2002 GT from a roll when I was stock (maybe had a lid dont remember). After the raced he asked me if i was putting down 400rwhp. He was fully bolted. I ran away from him like crazy

That's what I figured. These cars are beasts in factory form.

2v's just dont have what it takes to keep up with an LS1, I used to own a a 99 GT and my trans am's a monster compared to it. Ive actually owned 5 mustangs which all started out stock, and the LS1 I have now is the fastest stock car Ive ever ownd, and all I have is a SLP Lid and Catback, and im an A4 with 2.73's

I raced my friends 04 Mach 1 he just bought (32 valve) and raced him 2 times from a highway roll and beat him both times by like 3 cars. he said he only downshifted to 4th but I think even if he went to 3rd I still might have pulled him.

Gt's would have to have heavy bolt on's and gears to even keep up

just my .2 cents

an 03 GT 5spds put down about 220-230 @ the wheels compared to 280-290 for an automatic 98 T/A and weigh about the same. Do the math.

Alot of ppl buy 99-04 mustangs GT's and think i have 260hp and 300tq but dont think about how much is actually going to the ground. Then they want to race camaro's and trans am and not look up and car specs and think they have the same hp and torque and found out the hard way.
