Default Unexpected loss for the old LT1 today

Me and my GF cruising this morning in my stock LT1 (2.73 gears, auto). I run into a Volvo with some guy that wants to run me. Normally I wouldn't waste my gas on something like a Volvo, but something about this car made me change my mind. We rolled out at like 60 mph and I counted off and we both hit it. It was dead even until my car shifted into 3rd gear at about 85 mph and then he started walking away very slowly. I was thinking WTF, and wanted another go at it. This time we were rolling about 65 mph which is slightly better for me. I counted it off again and we both hit it. Same as the last run, it was dead even until my car hit 3rd gear and then he started walking away again very slowly. The race was so close that I think if I had been alone in my car it might have been dead even. All that aside, they were a couple of great runs with me getting the loss both times.

We pulled into a gas station and chatted it up a bit. Turned out it was a 2008 S80 V8 AWD. The guy said it makes 311hp and 325tq (I confirmed it when I got home). Volvo claims it weighs 4100 lbs. The guy was pretty cool for a Volvo driver.

We never got to run from a stop, but I'd think he'd beat me decently being AWD. Even if he only pulled a little on me out of the hole, I wasn't gonna pull anything back, and up top he'd probably increase the lead. I'd think it's a 13.9 car in decent weather.

I was very impressed with the car and it'll hopefully teach me not to underestimate cars with my stock LT1, lol. Time for some mods I think!

A respectable loss to a superior car. Next time get him to race from a dig and I bet he'll put quite a hurtin on you.

^I don't doubt it. I think that race was just what I needed to give me incentive to finally throw some mods at it!

It's about damn time. You've had that car what? Over a month? We can't have an LT1 losing to a 4,100 pound 4-door family sedan...

LOL, I'd rather see the soccer moms driving those things than the "I own the road" 48' long, 25' tall SUV's that they normally drive.

No kidding. Those S80s are NICE cars. I'd take one any day for a daily driver.

1. It does have a V8, and it sounds pretty good, too.

2. Have you seen the new S80s? They look very sharp and nothing like the crappy box Volvo of past years. My boss has one in blue and it's just a great car all around, looks-wise and performance-wise. The AWD systems on them are amazing.

Car and Driver got 0-60 in 5.7 seconds, that's door to door with an automatic LT1.
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/..._awd_road_test

It does however cost over $50k more than your typical 94 Z.

Nice, I've been waiting to see some numbers on these.

And price-wise: no it doesn't. I picked out my boss' for him, priced it, and did the negotiations. He paid $51k OTD with navigation. I could be wrong, but I don't think your average LT1 costs less than $1,000.

Hahaha, just read that article. Wow, they didn't like that car. I drive the 2008 V8 AWD model all the time and I must say I completely disagree with them, and so do the people that I know that have driven it.

The car is extremely comfortable, easy to drive, typical features you'd expect from a luxury vehicle, only priced quite a bit lower than the similar Mercedes and BMW models. Not to mention the get-up-and-go on it is surprising. The only part I don't like about it is the gas mileage, but it does weigh almost 4,200 pounds, so I don't know what else you would expect from an AWD V8 4-door sedan of that weight.

I would take one for a daily driver in a second if I could afford the gas.

The one they tested was "a sticker-shocking $56,025" so $50k more than an average 94 Z28 is about right.

Haha, yeah, I saw that. I was just saying that you could easily get one for much less than that. Take away the navigation system that my boss didn't want in the first place and it was a $49,000 car out the door. Not too shabby if you ask me, but that's just me....

It's a very nice car for what it is, but not the sort of car that you'd want to take to the track and brag about. Definitely surprizingly fast for the looks! Maybe I'll toss my drag radials on and see if I can find him again for a dig race...

It's still a Volvo any which way you try to dress it up
