Default Dragged a new Civic SI

Well one of my good friends has a new Civic SI with magnaflow fart can, intake, header, and a tune. We always talk about cars and he's not the ricer type to be honest but he wanted to race. So we set it up after school and went out on the highway for a couple of pulls.

1st run I beep it off at 40mph and go about half throttle to see what this little car was about...and actually started to pull from 40-60 about a nose then I actually put my foot into it and pass him like he was at a stop sign and proceeded to put a couple of busses on him to about 130 or so.

Camaro-1 Civic-0

2nd run he beep it off at around 40mph and this time I gun it from the start and it was not pretty at all after about 50mph he was about 12 cars back.

So we pull off to a gas station and talk about and he kinda went ricer on me and said that 3rd was sliping. But I complemented his car and he to mine and he also bought me a drink. All in all a good two races.

Base engine: 2.0 liter inline 4-cylinder, 197 horsepower @ 7800 RPM, 139 lb-ft @ 6100 RPM. Might be good for high 14's...

With the right driver, mid 14s... most people run high 14s/low 15s. For all intents and purposes, they're RSX-Ss with an LSD.

Geez, I hope you would have beat him...
Civics are meant for saving the world from green house gasses, and making all the liberals happy..... Not for beating LSx Cars.

I think either his clutch really was slipping or you are exaggerating. You said you went from 40-50 and had 12 cars. That leaves me to believe that you hit it and he tried to but he had to wait for his clutch to catch.

The new SI is no match for a LS1, there is no doubt. What i'm saying, though, is that it should not have been such a murder. From a 40 roll, i think you'd need to take it up into the 100's to get 12 cars on him (especially if he has mods) since you are stock. They respond pretty well to mods. A SI with intake/header/exhaust and a KPro tune is about a low 14 second car...MAYBE, and i do mean maybe since they're FWD, but MAYBE 13.9. You shouldnt've have killed him SO bad unless something was wrong with his car.

****, a full bolt-on/tuned (if it's Hondata) Si should be solidly in the 13s with any sort of driver... trap 103-104mph. But whatever, **** happens. 40mph would be the very bottom of 2nd gear for him, so that's not exactly the best place to run from in a 4cyl car.

40mph at the bottom of second gear? That seems like the car would be really high geared and dont think it would trap even a 100 mph.

I agree but i didn't want to say that and get shot at for protecting ricers.

I'm just saying that it should've been closer. The OP definitely should have won, but not by that much.

For example, a bolt on/tuned SI should be about par with a stock S2000. I just raced a stock S2000 and it took me from 45-110 to get about 8 cars.

Si's are not fast. Period. Even with light bolt ons and a tune.

Buddy of mine just got one and already has a whole list of bolt ons for it and it really isn't that fast. But he does have a turbo kit on order....

I'm not a huge fan of them, but I do consider this. No they're not fast but relative to what they are, they're quick. These cars have definitely come a long way to not just be economical, but also performance oriented to a degree. To make a naturally aspirated 2.0L engine based car run what older 5.0-5.7 liter cars of the late 80's run is pretty respectable in my opinion. Just as Lsx cars have made leaps and bound ahead of their former years, so have these cars and without using forced induction.
easy kill though!

Ya they are quick little cars and yes I was exaggerating the 12 cars but had I me and him kept on going I would have put an airport strip on him lol. But ya it was a quick car and he is a good driver. I really doubt his clutch was slipping because he jump me pretty good on the first run and when he shifted he stayed ahead pretty good till about 55 or 60 then I just walked him like a dog with ADD.

I've yet to drive a new Si, but I know in my old Integra first gear was done @ 42mph... 8,100rpm. That's what 4.40 gears will do for you. 30mph would have been a better spot for him, but of course it wouldn't have made a big enough difference for him to win.

The first gear of the SI winds out about 37-38mph at 8300 rpm if I remember correctly.
