Default How to get the best LAUNCH?

Ok here is the deal...No matter what i do i always spin my tires and suck at a stop. Wondering if there is any video or instructions to get a good launch? I have an A4 with a 3k converter plus cam and nos, etc, etc...Also i need new tires but i figure i'd like to practice on these old ones before burning a pair of new ones up.

Thanks Guys for any help...

If im in the wrong posting please just point me in the right direction im kinda new here.

Get some 15x10" wheels, some Mickey Thompson 275 series ET Street Radials, and put the tire pressure around 14psi. Problem solved....

A good drag radial on a prepped road will do the trick.

I have HAL adjustable shocks/suspension running with 275/40/17 Kuhmo's with about 40 psi. I prolly need to just lower the tire psi and i would be good to go?

Jeez. 40 is way too high. You should be at 30 at the highest. I run around at 24psi on my street tires. The ride is a little rough sometimes, and the mpg got hurt a little (not much), but I hook a hell of a lot better than I did when I was at 35.

Check out Ranger's web site. He's got tons of great tips and techniques on there, along with vids and stuff. It helped my driving out immensely.

If you are making any kind of power you are wasting your time with street tires.

I agree with Stopsign...sounds like you have quite a bit of money and work into your car to try to launch with street tires and especially at 40 psi is asking alot. I would get some Nitto 315/35/17s if you want the tire to last a whilea dn get good traction or some MT streets for all out traction. And run them about 20 psi, that will solve your problem.

THANKS guys i knew when i checked my psi last week and it said 40 that i was prolly a bit high. I just bought the car 2 weeks ago so im on a learning curve with all this.

I'm running on the stock WS6 rims. With the 315 don't i have to put spacers on and do a lot of extra work? how big can i go without having to get new rims and work on spacers and what not? can i get away with 305's?

Also what site is that with ranger?

Lots of people in f bodies are on 315's. I personally know someone who's lowered on H and R springs on 315's and has no rubbing and had to do no body work to make them fit. I needed no body work to make my 315's fit also. Just buy them and put them on.

*Edit: Just noticed you said stock wheels... Those are 9's IIRC Here's the wheel fitment info:

WIDTH ..... OFFSET ......... WIDTH OF TIRE

Front and Rear

7.0" ..... +35 to +40 mm .... 215, 225, 235
7.5" ..... +35 to +45 mm .... 215, 225, 235
8.0" ..... +38 to +55 mm .... 225, 235, 245
8.5" ..... +38 to +45 mm .... 235, 245, 255
9.0" ..... +38 to +56 mm .... 255, 265, 275
9.5" ..... +38 to +56 mm .... 255, 265, 275, 285
10.0" ... +38 to +48 mm .... 265, 275, 285

REAR Only

10.0" ... +38 to +54 mm .... 275, 285, 295
10.5" ... +38 to +50 mm .... 285, 295, 305, 315
11.0" ... +45 to +56 mm .... 305, 315, 335

NOTE: 315 series tires DO NOT fit 9" or 9.5" wheels. It will not be discussed.

I've heard of 315's fitting on 9.5's, but I wouldn't run them personally. The beads wouldn't sit right on the wheel.

I have a manual and have no problem on street tires. The suspension mods I have are UMI LCA's, UMI panhard and a relocated Spohn torque arm with front and rear driveshaft loops. I bring the revs to 1800 and dump the clutch and mash the gas after the car starts moving a little. It doesn't spin if the tires are warm and its over 70 degrees outside. This is on Kumho's and on the street. No track time for this car yet. In an auto I imagine these mods would be pretty nice setup.

Stalled auto on street tires with cam and nos = no traction.

I don't bother unless I have my M/T's on the car. Everything rapes me off the line because I can't go WOT.

You almost have to slowly get into it and wait before you can nail it, and hope whatever your racing isn't to far out.
