Too close
Ok guys so last night round midnight a dodge neon starts running his mouth while im at the pump, so obviously i tell him to show up or shut up! to make a long story short we had a 50 mph roll on interstate and it was neck in neck untill around 100mph then i finally was able to start pulling away. he said it was a stock 6 cy with a cold air intake ( although i could hear some hige pitch sounds at high RPMS) well needless to say it was too close for me, and whats worse is that my girl was in the car. ! EMBARSMENT so i have now decided that i am going to put more money into my car and i need some help!! i have just recently installed a ram air intake kit, ( noticed no change) the rest of the car is a stock 1999 Z28 camaro what areas/performance parts should i start reading into?

A full exhaust will make it feel like a new car. An LS6 intake and ported throttle body are also a great idea. Page through the LS1 External section to get some ideas. I believe there's a sticky at the top of that section that will give you a good idea how you should go about modding.

Hold on a second....you said the Neon was a 6 cylinder??? THERE IS NO SUCH THING. Was it an dumdumdumdumdum or what? Do you know how to drive? Even so a stock dumdumdumdumdum should not be neck and neck with an LS1.

lid, headers, underdrive pulley, ory, td's, tb the list is long. Just ordered 2k worth of performance, appearance, and interior mods and still have a 10 page list of more stuff to put in Good luck and enjoy the pile of toys that will be waiting at your door once you buy your first mod because it all racks up fast. Check out rpmspeed that's a good site and texas-speed

srt-4s can be very quick i wont lie i had one and only had a short ram intake, borla cat-back, plugs and wires, motor mounts, short shifter, stage 1 pcm and stage 2 wastegate as power adders and i could beat stock or near stock ls1s from a roll pretty easily... now start throwing parts on your ls1 and you'll have no problem

Guy was bullshitting you or you got a bottle stuck under your gas pedal and werent going full throttle. Skittles can be very fast (I have a buddy who runs high 11's with a ton of mods such as .50 trim turbo, full turboback exhaust, CAI, tune, meth injection, etc) so they shouldnt be underestimated but you should have pulled on him pretty decently if he really only had a CAI kit. As for mods most of the guys above covered it but list should be:
M6 = shifter (pro 5.0 with short stick), headers, ory, catback (or duals), new msd wires and ngk plugs (easiest to do while doing headers IMO), ls6 intake, ported stock TB, pullies (25% pulley), full dynotune, subframe connectors, lower control arms, adjustable panhard rod, new clutch, gears (3.73 or 4.10), new tires. Thats a good start. If you are an A4 then you should def look into the same mods however a stall should be high on your list as thats one of the best bang for the buck mods out there for an a4. After these mods are done then look into a cam or n20 (or both), but remember stock 10-bolt rear end sucks so always make sure that you keep in mind that adding a ton of power with stress the rest of your drivetrain significantly. Have fun with the car though and cheers to the start of the modding bug!

spray a 150 shot and forget about about him!
nah, actually go read that sticky that someone said in external or internal section, cant remeber, but its got pages of stuff and great explanations.
QUICK ANSWER: LID, LONGTUBES, CATBACK/TRUE DUALS, ls6 intake/fast 90/90 if ya got some $$ and you should be well over him. if ya cam it, say goooodbye. oh and a nice tune will do wonders
EDIT: no such thing as a 6 cylinder neon and that loud noise you hear was his turbo

You should by a SLP Lid with K&N filter and smooth bellow (202$) Pacesetter Longtubes with o2exts and offroad y pipe (665$) and a SLP loud mouth catback(385$)
You can do this at home with a friend in 1 or 2 days. And u will notice a big change in power and then find your SRT 4 friend and run him again.

I raced an SRT 4 from a stop a few years back and I only had 1 length on him up to about 90. I'm mostly all stock.

SRTs are quick stock, but you're still talking about a 14 second car matching up against a low 13 second car. Even just stock for stock, you should have murdered him. And the fact that he said it was a 6 cylinder shows that he was either talking out of his ***, or just doesn't know ****. Maybe he had all of those Mopar upgrades you can get straight out of the chute when you buy an dumdumdumdumdum. I'm 100% stock and I ate an SRT alive from a dig the other night. Maybe they're better from a 50mph roll...
