About a month ago I posted about a race with my buddy in his 99 Cobra. Well I had the car tuned and we finally got to go again.
Here are the Stats.

99 Cobra- Few mods namely exhaust and Short throw Shifter and stickier tires.

01 z-28- A4, LTs, True duals, lid, and a dyno tune.

Round one: I just wanna say that anyone who thinks cobras suck off the line have never raced one with a good driver. There is no way in hell I can keep up with him from dead stop... he jumps out at least a car length... But once we get moving it did not take me long to reel him in.we let off about 80 with me two cars or so ahead.
Round Two: We went from a thirty punch just to see what happened. I nailed it and instantly started to pull on him. By the time I hit 100 he was somewhere between 3-4 cars back... (not good at measuring distance with rear view mirror)
Round Last: We went from stop again this time he didn't hook very well and only got out to about his back bumper at my front but I quickly ran him down and we ran to a ridiculous speed just to see what would happen. Camaro Top end > Cobra top end = many distances.

He finally with a sniffle admited that my car, was indeed, faster. But he then pointed and said "but mine sounds better"... he is right dammit.

I have to say... the tune really woke my car up way more than I thought it would. And now it doesn't rev to revlimiter in second gear... Yay!

Good runs... those LTs and tune are what made the race for you . What are his future plans for the car?

He said he has 3.27s??? I think... Stock. Mine is a 2.73 I believe... (I think that is what I looked up). I have to say that his car is just prestine...

He wants to do headers next... (Oh what fun) and then he is thinking a whipple. It will be a different ball game then.

I can't wait to see what LTs do for him... it ought to make it a very good race.

Yeah, those year Cobras came with 3.27s stock, just like the GTs. And the LT install is gonna be a pain in the butt, but he's gonna see a pretty substantial gain, especially if he gets it tuned

Yeah he sent me a link on a how-to for LTs on teh cobra... *shudder* it looks horrible. Of course he coulad always say screw it and buy a terminator.... and give me his old cobra...

Yeah, a 2.73 geared car is definitely not a rocket off the line. Good kills! Nothing better than fun races between friends!

He had better......If he has a CAI, mipipe and adds a tune...Big time lean. Even if he doesnt' ahve a CAI...I would get it tuned..at the very least, get the A/F checked.
Not fun........SHorties don't do much of anything for these cars so it's mids or LTs...and if you're going mid, mine as well go all the way.

BTW - is his car a Post fix 99?

From what I recall, the 1999 Cobras were recalled for intake and exhaust fixes. No one was getting the power they expected, so Ford fixed the problem.

That is correct. But it was intake, exhaust, corrected tune and I think one more thing...I'd ahve to double check though.
