Default 3.8 99 camaro takes on 95 GT

My brother just got his license and my parents helped him buy a 99 3.8 camaro 5spd, with the slp factory options making output 205 hp, nothing to brag about but a nice. (they wouldn't let him get an 8cylinder after seeing what I did to mine which was take it from just under 300 hp to nearly 500). Anyways, our neighbors kids down the street are spoiled ********, their father gave the youngest boy his low mileage 95 auto gt a few months back, and the kid hasn't stopped talking **** since. I'd race him just to shut him up but christ he isn't even 17, so I decided to let him think his car is amazing, I thought my 1980 301 formula was hot **** back in highschool lol. My younger brother however decided to rain on his friend's parade today. My brother KC called me after I was out of work to tell me to meet him in Billerica, near the business complex on Bedford rd. When I got there his new camaro and his friends black gt were there along with a bunch of their friends. KC came over and asked me if I thought his 3.8 5spd could take the other kids 4.6 2v, I thought about it and told him "It would certainly be a race!"

They lined up, and one of their friends flagged it. I was really proud to see and hear my younger brother holding his rpms for a launch, I guess he was listening when i told him how to race, his friend just sat there shooting out revs. upon the arm drop my brother took off leaving the 4.6 a car behind, from their it was a close race, but I would have sworn my brother was pulling. When they shut down well under 100 mph, I brought him out for ice cream after he was done busting his friends *****. I was so proud of him taking a heavier car down 2 cylinders and then laying the smackif down.

Does that sound normal for a 3.8 to beat a 95 gt? I looked up their 0-60 times and the gt should be almost a second faster. I guess those cars stock make for a drivers race. FORGOT TO MENTION: Mustang is also a convertible (chick car for sure)

keep fighting the good fight

Wasn't the 95 GT a 302? At anyrate I know they are really slow before 99, and even then they aren't that fast. I could defintely see that being a really good race.

Good kill.

Make sure your brother does everything safely though.

95 GT's are the slowest V-8 cars ever made.

If it says 4.6 then it's a 96-98. 94-95 were 302's.

Driver maybe? Not to mention the auto's suck hard. If you brother would race me in my stock 96 GT I would pound him out pretty nicely

Good kill!

No, the 96-97 GT's were slightly slower. The 98's I think had a more aggressive tune and were probably slightly quicker all else being equal. I had a 1995 Mustang GTS and it was certainly S-L-O-W stock or mildly modified.

My 88 Formula 305 TBI begs to differ.

Nice kill to your brother. I kind of expected that to be a driver's race. I had an idiot in a 94-95 V6 Stang try to race me one day when I was in the Camaro, haha. It gave me the perfect opportunity to explain to my girlfriend why you drop gears when racing and the advantages of being in the powerband. First race I just punched it in 6th from like 65-70mph and we just stayed next to each other until about 85 where I started to pull away.

He then pulls up next to me all psyched thinking he actually just hung with me. I help up six fingers to let him know it was sixth gear, but he didn't get it, so I dropped to third and blasted away so fast he probably crapped his pants. He never would pull up next to me again, and HE was the one who instigated it in the first place.

The funniest part was explaining the whole thing to my girlfriend WHILE racing him in sixth gear.

I raced a '95 V6 Mustang on 22" dinner plates and a '89 305 TBI Camaro. Beat them both by 5 lengths to 85.....oh and this was in my dads '06 4.0 V6 Tundra.
