Trouble getting rear rotor off my C5
I bought some new rotors for my C5, and ran into a problem with my rear-passenger side rotor coming off. The driver's side came off fairly easily, but the pass. one seems stuck. The e-brake is disconnected, and I can turn the hub freely, but the rotor will not come off.
Anybody have any suggestions to remove it without damaging the thing? The service manual says you should be able to "gently remove it while turning it" to get it off, which worked perfectly on the driver's side. Is it just rusted tight on the hub?
Any help is appreciated-
Tim

You took the "clips" off the studs, right? (I have to ask). You may try a small amount of penetrating oil around the hub area, often a small rust build up right there will keep a rotor from coming off. I've been known to scrape that area (between the hub and rotor) with a small screwdriver in an effort to break up that rust deposit (I'm guessing that is what is causing your problem). Does the rotor move at all?

Re: Trouble getting rear rotor off my C5
There's no clips on the studs, and I did take a small pick-tool to break up any rust on the hub center, but no dice. I also tried hitting it with a rubber mallet, with same results (although I wasn't hitting it as hard as I could).
I'll try some penetrating oil later and see if that works. My guess is that it's just rusted tight, but the driver's side came off so easy compared to this one I thought something else might be wrong...
thanks for the suggestions guys.

Timmy,
Is there a threaded hole on the rotor face between the studs? Some cars leave you a bolt hols to screw a bolt into the rotor to "pop" it loose from the spindle (I just had to do this on my wifes mazda....made me think to ask). If it is there, you're in luck, if not, try oil and a torch to warm the rotor to try to free it (giant 2 or 3 jaw puller? May break the disk though).
Good luck!

Hammer! Get a few good hits between a set of studs. Works everytime for me. It seemed when i was doing brakes the rears were always the hard ones to get off. I wonder why.

Yep... hit it between the studs. My rear rotors were stuck too, so in between the studs, I hit it in this pattern: tap, tap, BANG!. So basically two lighter taps, and one big whack. Did that a few times and the rotor came right off.
