Default How many knuckles-steering to manual rack?

I'm just now finishing up on a 98 Camaro drag car that I have been building for the past year. I installed a manual rack and it has 1-7/8" tube headers by TS&P. The steering rod from the columb had to be extended a few inches so the rod after the first knuckle would clear the front header tube before turning back to the knuckle at the rack. Problem is there is so much angle on the first knuckle it binds before making a complete revolution. Has anyone else run into this problem? Is the fix add another knuckle and a support for the middle rod?
