Default Spohn TA Snapped

Broke my stock Ta when it was just a exhaust car and ordered a Spohn Torque arm Adj. Im now a bolt on only car with a Moser 12 bolt 4.30 gears. I made 3 passes with traction issues but each pass was getting better. The 4th pass boom. 5,500rpm Ta broke which then caused my drive shaft to snap too. Sucks because I really thought the SPohn Ta would be able to hold a 345hp bolt on car.

Are you sure the driveshaft didn't break first?

pretty sure. Ta snapped on top which left the pressure from the bottom bar to push back more and caused the rear end to tilt upward. Which then snapped the housing ring on the drive shaft. Its not the Stock drive shaft btw Even if..If the drive shaft broke 1st the TA would still be intact due to there being no force on the TA. It would of been gone once the drive shaft broke.

Damn, is there any way it could of been a factory defect in the TA? I was certain that the TA could withstand a considerable amount of hp.

Wow thats nasty. What kind of 60' times are you putting out? Also maybe you had adjusted the TA too far in either direction?

Common problem with Moser 12 bolts and how the torque arm bolts do not go all the way thru. Heard this story many times with all brands of torque arms.

That night i was cutting. 1.6 60. The ta was set at -2 from what the shop said. And the moser 12 bolts have problems breaking the brackets not the Ta itself, I have already broke one. Trying to see if they won't warranty it. They dId my buddies that he twisted off at the adj bolts.

Historically yes the bracket breaks but if the TA bolts come loose I could I could see it breaking in this manner as well. If there's deflection it's gonna wanna give somewhere. Either way maybe time for you to look at the Madman.

You've broken a stock one AND this one? Perhaps there is something else going on with your suspension that's putting unusual loads on these parts.

That sucks....I had a Spohn adj. T/A on my 93 T/A with a Moser 9", I had NO problems. Ran low 12s with consistant 60' of 1.7x.

what broke it stock was me launching at rev with tires and 4.30 gears. Ofcourse the stock Ta is going to break. Plenty of people have done that. The way it looks is the weld gave away at the bracket and then snapped the rest. Looking to be a weak weld

There has been two of us here locally that i know of that have broke in the same area. The other guy twisted his though. Spohn warrantied that.

The madman looks good but no cutting, grinding or welding for me + the high price. There are others out there

he didnt say anything about warranting it. If something was wrong with the car wouldn't it of broke sometime in the 3 yr time frame of me racing and DD with it? Only thing different was me adding some strange shocks all around and the local shop here installed them and set the angle on the TA
