torque arm adjustment help i got a umi adj chassis mount tq arm for xmas. im going to install it this week, but my question is....... what is the proper angle i should set the driveshaft? also in what position does the car need to be in when adjusting? is there anything else i need to be aware of when installing this? |
I have mine set at -1 when the car is at ride height |
car needs to be level suspension needs to be fully loaded I like to let the car sit on blocks overnight, to let the suspension "settle" Check your transmission angle first... sometimes you transmission angle isn't always 0*. I know mine was -1* I would set it on either -1 to -2 *. If you are a little more extreme, give it more angle. I run mine at -4* |
You set the pinion, not the driveshaft. Take your angle finder put it on the Driveshaft. Write down the number. Put your angle finder on the bottom flat part of the torque arm where it mounts to the rear end. Write down the number. Add the two numbers together. adjust accordingly example: If your DS was at 0* and your rear was at -2* then it would be a -2* pinion angle 0+(-2)= -2 each car can vary so initial numbers may be slightly off. End result you just want to be at around -2 for an automatic car street driven. I forget what manuals should be at |

So, if you have a magnetic angle finder on the flat part of the torque arm mount, and the rear is pointing up towards the driveshaft, sounds like everyone is saying you have a negative number. But if you adjust it and the dial moves to the other side of zero, I now have a positive number? |

ok so far i have gathered that the angle finder needs to be placed on the flat part of the rear end to get the angle. for the second measurement should it go on the ds or the transmission? and when im adjusting the tq arm where do i put the angle finder while im adjusting? |
Hello Put it on the DS not the transmission. And if it is magnetic just let it on one or the other and keep checking both as adjusting. Brad :D |
If -2 is the general range for a street car, what's the best for a track only car? Would a more negative number hit the tires harder at the track? |

setting up 4 street and strip 2 diff things 4 strip u are using the pinion angle 2 create lift on the front of the car for wight transfer... madman puts the car at ride height and then put the rearend -2 thats it 4 street i take the angle off the drive shaft and make sure the rearend is -1 from that angle..... -2 for a manual car every car will be diff. because of the ride height if its lowered and so on thats y u take the angle off the shaft first thats the way i do it and its been working good 4 me |

We have had this question hundreds of times and we decided to develop a video to help show the procedure. I know you have a UMI torque arm but the procedure would be the same for all manufacturers. |
