Default What Front Brakes do you suggest

While in the process of doing shocks/springs/suspension mods im also saving for some big front brakes.

Im looking for some new rotors/calipers that will not only look great but perform well too.

Im looking for a daily driver set up, nothing too extreme. Thanks

A C5 conversion will set you back about $800
A Wilwood kit will run about $1600
A Stoptech or Movit kit will be just over $2000

After that, you begin to get expensive!

I Always Liked The Drilled Look If It Were Me Id Do Some Drilled Slotted Roators Paint The Calipers And Do Some Better Pads... It Will Look Great Keep Cost Down And Peform A Good Deal Better Than Stock Which Is Not Too Bad For Street Use....

The only problem I have with drilled rotors is that if the holes aren't part of the casting process they WILL end up cracking. Honestly I would just look into the C5 or Z06 upgrade. They may be one and the same I'm not sure. I'm looking for the same thing you are and I'm wanting something I know will be there for me when slowing down after a 10 second run. I've thought about Wilwood but then thought maybe a vette upgrade would be perfectly fine

Mostly just daily driving, but its a 1LE car that sees both the 1/4th and the Auto X. The car runs about a 12.00 right now. I also want something that stands out appearance wise too for shows.

For a cheap - easy, AND a cheap - easy system to maintain, the C5 conversion is the way to go. Other than the brackets, the entire system can be maintained with autopart store parts - or the dealership. But I'm partial . . . .

Pics of the conversion in the sig.

Very good point.

I found that my stock calipers would fatigue, though. After numerous heat cycles, the ears would flex ever so slightly causing a "long pedal". As I would engage the brakes, the pedal would slowly go down as the calipers flexed apart.

Consequently, the pads would taper and my pad contact surface was significantly reduced.

The C5 caliper is not nearly as susceptible to this phenomenon.

Interesting you should say this...

I noticed this weekend that the Z06 calipers have a much narrower mounting tab than the stock f-body calipers.

Mitch what would you suggest as far as a good brake upgrade goes? I'm looking for something that is good for the track and offers a good reliable quick stop. Also appearence comes into play alittle also

Another question - How much do you want to spend?

Just to clarify ...
I'm talking about the ears on the front of the caliper, where the pad rides. As you press the pedal and force the pistons out of the caliper, the ears I'm referring to are just opposite the pistons.

The mounting tabs are not the ears I was referring to.

After driving my Prospeed shod car for a while and then driving a Firrehawk with the C5 brakes, I was amazed at the difference in stopping power Simply amazed! And the Firhwak owner who drove my car was equally amazed.

There is that big of a difference ....

Not looking to spend an arm and a leg. I'm not a road racer or anything. Just wanting a good brake system that puts out better stoping power and will be there for me on hard braking after a 1/4 mile run

I think the C5 would be your best bet. The C5 kit is probably a nice upgrade from stock, I'm sure mitch will say the same thing.

Right now that's what I'm thinking. If I went with anything else it would probably be Wilwood.

Before anyone pulls the trigger on a brake upgrade, make sure you can live with the cost of expendables. Sometimes brake pad cost and availability is eye opening!
