Can I swap my 4th gen disk brakes onto my 1972 Nova?
Hey guys I need some help here,
I just swapped my stock rotors/calipers on my 2000 firebird to C5 Z06 calipers/rotors.
I just bought a 1972 Chevy Nova 2 days ago and it has drums all around.. :S
Anybody know if I could swap my stock firebird rotors/calipers etc. onto it or if it's been done before?
I understand I would have to get a new master cylinder, proportioning valve, spindles, etc. but I can't seem to find any info on anybody doing a swap anywhere...
Any help is appreciated!

The Nova has the "traditional" deal where the hub and rotor are one big casting, and the spindle has the "stub axle" that the bearings ride on. The Firebird uses the newer integrated hub/bearing assembly that bolts to the spindle, and the rotors slip over the lug studs.
Having said that, installing the 'Bird brakes on the Nova isn't an easy "remove drums/replace with discs", Saturday afternoon swap. But given enough time, money, and machining ability, nothing is impossible.
In other words, using '72 Nova disc brakes parts would be FAR, FAR easier....

I did this swap on my 67 camaro it was very easy and cheap you already have the brakes all you need is a bracket to attach the caliper to the spindle (anywhere from 30 to 60 dollers) and have the drum hub turned down to fit in your 4th gen rotor (about 35 bucks at the local machine shop) and some longer studs bolt it all together . here is the links on how to do it

rear brake write up

email this guy to get the brackets you need to adapt the caliper mount to the spindle
rwhoag1969@verizon.net
or go on ebay and buy these brackets
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... MEWAX%3AIT
This only take an hour to do after you get the parts rounded up
this is a low cost deal and I would do it oh wait I already did.

This months issue of Popular Hot rodding, with the starliner on the cover, has a write up and pics on a 71 nova and the guy who built it put a combo of 4th gen brakes and S-10 brakes if I recall correctly. He used some custom caliper brackets he fabbed up. The nova has twin turbo 6.0 liter LS series in it and he did a whole slew of other mods to being it up to date. It's a good read and I guess the guy struck out on his own now to do custom work as his regular job. It's all in the article.

Hey guys thanks so much for the replies! Sounds like it almost might be easier to just buy a new kit for it... It's always a pain to try to find odd little parts that you are missing and it usually ends up costing a lot more than planned!
Thanks again, much appreciated!
