Default Cleaning up brake calipers

Need some info on how to properly clean up some used front brake calipers that i got. Like do i need to look out for anything in general? i plan on rebuilding them with the rebuild kit so can i just spray the hell out of them with brake cleaner and scrub them down? i plan on painting or polishing them.

Check to see if the bleeders are rusted or not, don't want that crud working it's way to your abs block. Careful with the products you clean/lube with. The rubber for brake systems will swell up with oil based products.

if you are rebuilding them like you say, i would blast them with some carb/brake cleaner and wire brush/steel wool, and then soak them in some grease lightning followed by some more steel wool fine grit sand paper and then go to town with the paint
