Default rear suspension travel

Just wondering how much rearend travel my 98 SS should have, If I have it on a hoist and try to jack it up from under the 12bolt it will only move a inch or inch and a half before it feels like it cant go any more is this normal or some thing binding up?

Look under the car while you do it. Is the rear end hitting the bump stops and then pushing the car up? Or is it just reaching a point where the springs become stiff enough to support the rear of the car (which will be close to actual ride height)?
