Exclamation Front Koni install problem

So I installed my Stranos/Konis months ago and lately I felt the car bounce way tooo much when going over bumps or over parts of road where I would quickly go up and down. It felt like a damn lowrider hoping.

So today, like right now I went to check them and I decided to take them off to inspect them and I found out that the shock/spring assembly was LOOSE! the shock mount on top broke off. When I installed them last time I bought brand new Monroe shock mounts to be "safe" but I guess they were crap.

Now im getting GM mounts and I just wanted to go over how to properly install the fronts.

I know I have to put the flat washer first and then the shock mount. Now, how much thread on the shock shaft do I have to see to know the shock mount is completely down and ready to put on the top nuts ?

I just want to make sure I put the nuts all the way down and get a good tight fit.

I appreciate any help guys

If you've compressed the springs enough, it will be obvious when you have the nut compressed enough, as the spring will not be exerting any resistance yet. Tighten until you cannot tighten any more -- it's tough to over-tighten it in that assembly without special tools...

You are using the part that goes on top of the shock mount as well (dog biscuit looking isolator part), right?

You know the Monroe shock mounts didn't include it so I don't have it on. Is that part really important? And can I use something else instead of that?

I wasn't aware that any mounts included it. Even from GM the 'isolators' are a separate part number.

They are cheap anyway, why not just get new ones?

I didnt know it was a different part. Do you have the part # by any chance?

And how important are these isolators?

Check out this thread for part numbers:

Without the isolators, as I understand it, the shock mounts break. Pretty much what happened to you.

1000% important -- you need to use them.

I suspect many shoddy shops who don't do good work, don't use them either and then people have repeat problems...

It's slightly different on each car so you wouldn't be able to tell anyways. Just make sure the spring is seated in the bottom perch (w/ the plastic isolator) and into the top mount rubber isolator. Make sure the spring is compressed so that the top isolator sits flat on the shock and tighten the top nut (w/ the rubber isolator under the nut). Then release the spring compressor. Make sure you have the top mount aligned properly and the adjustment window is facing outwards as well or you'll be kicking yourself later.

So I dont even have this plastic isolator you talk about on the bottom perch.

Is there a part number for that ?

I looked on autozone.com and rockauto.com and I couldnt find it.

I got them from someone. Its a plastic piece that goes on the bottom of the spring. in between the spring and the lower perch.
