I would if you can. It's pretty easy on a hoist to do, pop the bolt out, removed the arm from the bushing, the rear end will want to tip upward right away (without weight on it anyway). just let it hit the top of the tunnel, swap the bushing, and use your man muscles to pull the rear end back into place when your done.

if the rear end is sitting with the weight on it it might not want to move at all maybe? guess ive never really done it on the ground but somehow it doesnt seem very safe.

Cool. I'll try it w/o the weight on it. As long as I don't get cracked upside the head, all is good. I'll just put the rear on jack stands.

I would put the jack stands under the subframe rails, not the rear axle. You're going to be wiggling that thing around doing the torque arm bushing.

You may find that you need to vary the weght on the axle to unload the bolts from the holes after the nuts are off. Don't go banging on it - vary the load until the bolts slip in or out easily. Saves time in the end.

It can be done, but it's just easier and clears the way to come out with less hassle when you remove weight.

let the axle hang down. It makes it easier to get the rear bolts out. This is what I do everytime.

When I swapped in my UETA recently, I put my car on jackstands and let the axle hang. It made things easier during the install too.. I just jacked the rear end up and down to help line things up.

I just did mine last week. I put the jack stands under the sub-frame rails for stability, then when it came time to removing the TA and putting the new one in, I used the jack under the center of the rear and moved the height around until it was at a slip on/off angle. It was a PITA doing it on the ground but if I had to do it again I'm sure it would go alot easier...
