BMR th400 crossmembers do not fit either of my cars.
Hey all. I have an 95 and a 99 z28. I have BMR's th400 swap crossmember on both cars. The 99 has spohn kmember and solid motor mounts, and the 95 has a bmr k member and umi solid motor mounts. On both cars te transmission xmember is 1.5 inches lower than the mount on the tranny. At first i thought it was just the spohn solids because ive heard of them giving some people troubles. But yesterday i put the motor an trans in the 95 and its the same damn problem. Im runnin out of patience with the fitament if this damn crossmembers. Any help would be really appreciated.

It is more than likely the solid motor mount creating the issue by not letting the engine hang down and position like it normally would. Are the motor mount bolts tight? Give us a call here at the shop and talk to Kevin, he is our 4th gen specialist and he can definitely help you figure out what is going on. The shop number is (813)986-9302

Yeah, this is defiantly a motor mount issue. As for the one with our K-member and the UMI SOLID mounts, there should be enough play with the mounts loose that the engine should be able to rock back and bolt down the trans mount, then the motor mounts. That's always the proper procedure for the install because any inconsistency with engine positioning will be increased the further away you go. See the equation below that explains how this relationship works.
What we have here is a common problem with solid motor mounts and a main reason we don't suggest them to any customer unless they're going into the 800+ rwhp range and not worried about engine vibrations being sent through the car. Then engine doesn't move, making work on the trans near impossible. For example, if you installed these K-members with factory-style motor mounts and they were tightened down, the transmission would sag into the correct location.
We build our crossmembers for factory engine and trans location - which takes into account the sag. It's easy to say we built these wrong, but if you bolt down to our crossmember first, then try to bolt the motor mounts, you could say that the K-member or the motor mounts were built wrong. (If you get what I'm saying) Hopefully your frustrations will be soothed by simply loosening the UMI mounts on our K-member and allowing the engine to rock back and then bolt the transmission down. However, if you have already tightened your motor mounts down and "shaped" the U-clamps, you may need to open them back up and follow this procedure.

I swapped in stock clam shells and its the same thing on the 95' car. I'm getting lost as to where you say loosen the mounts and it should roll back... There is nothing to loosen, all the holes for the bolts are the exact same size as the bolts themselves.. there is zero adjustablility.

I have the same problem same crossmember but stock kmember. When I pull trans down to make it work drive shaft makes contact with my torque arm support (track pack) and my duals wont fit. header are much farther from the floorand exhaust sticks down off car.

My BMR 93-97 th400 torque arm relocation crossmember was dead on correct. If you are using solid engine mounts that keep the engine from tilting back to proper position, just add spacers under your trans mount. (as long as your trans isn't hitting the tunnel or floorpan anywhere)
