Default How did you remove (demolish) your front lower vertical bushing bolt?

I've given up on hammering it out. I've loaded it with deep creep and smashed at it with a mallet until I was exhausted.

I'm just going to cut them out. Although the bi-metal sawzall blades I picked up at harbor freight are a laughable experience. I think I got halfway through one end of the bushing before I gave up.

Thinking I might try Lenox Gold Lazer blades and see if I get better performance. I don't have access to a torch, and with all the crap I sprayed I'd be rather nervous to use one anyways.

How did you get them off when hammering didn't work?

Also if you cut them, WHERE did you make your cuts? I'm aiming just inside of the "washer" inner portion of the bushing on both ends.

Hammering with a mallet, as in a rubber mallet? I hit one side with a 3lb hammer and it popped out. The other side the hammer did nothing but the vibrations from an air chisel/hammer worked wonders. I picked up the Lenox blades in advance but didnt even have to use them.

Ahhh good times doing these bolts...

I used at least 10 blades and finally got it out. Use water in a spray bottle to cool the blades every few seconds. Torch would prob be the best way tho.

Undo your 3 K-member bolts on each side and drop it a bit, and the bolts slide right out. I just did this a few days ago.

After struggling for a day remove mine; I purchased a MAP gas torch from Home Depot to remove them.

Get the bolt hot enough that it glows (there will be some smoke) and then break it loose.
You may have to repeat the process a couple of times because as it cools it becomes more difficult to turn.

BTW, after using that much heat on the bolt, it is a good idea to replace it with new hardware.

What brand/model of blades did you use? Also, where did you make your cuts?

Check this thread I made. I made the cuts on the top part of bushing. I cant remember the name of the blades, it was a 10 pack of white colored blades from home depot.

That bolt was a royal pain on mine. When I swapped K members I had to drop it with one lca attached and take a golf swing with a sledge hammer to get it out of there. I just greased it up nice and good before I put it back in so hopefully it will come out easier when I go to tubular parts.

Good luck. I'm in that same boat. Car was from Salem, NH and before that Maine (which is even worse).

I've garaged it since I got my hands on it and it only sees sunny days, but damage done in this instance. (Thanks person before me!)
