Popping sound after replaced Sway Bars.
Hi guys,
So I have developed a popping noise when I hit decent sized bumps/dips in the road. OR when I go into an incline/decline (backing in out from my driveway at an angle)
This all started when I decidend to paint/clearcoat my Strano sway bars because they only come in black.
After I re-installed them the sound started so I'm thinking could I have done something wrong?
I know the rod ends are correct, but what I'm not sure is if the two black bushings with U joints that hold the sway bar flush to the rear axle are separated/close enough?
Also are there specific designated mounting spots where these bushings must been bolted to the axle? Because I just sort or eyed it and just bolted them.
How does this look? far apart enough or close enough?
Is it me or does the sway bar not look centered?

Could it be popping due to the endlinks not completely tightened down properly?
Could the D bushings be getting stuck to the bar with your new paint and causing the bar to pop/snap free to move inside of the bushing? Did you grease the bushings when putting the bar back in?

The paint was dried though, this popping has been going on for about one month now.
However, I did not re-grease the bushings after putting the bar back in from being painted. I didn't because there was still decent grease left from when the shop put in my rear and suspension one month prior.
Could the lack of grease be doing this?

What if the D bushings aren't spaced apart far enough/close enough, Or not level?
Is there a certain procedure to follow when mounting them onto the rear axle before tightening them down?
It sort of looks like the sway bar is raised a lil to the left, and a lil lower on the right.
Could this be from those D-Bushings not being aligned properly?

I would take the bushing off and grease em up. Too much grease wont hurt anything.
I had the same problem when i got new sway bars, every bump or driveway it just made an awful sticking popping noise

I would re-grease them more. The d bushings are spaced just like on my strano bar. Don't crank down on the end links either. They don't need to be very tight or you will split the bushings.

Your brackets look like they're in the same place as mine. When you tighten the end links, just tighten them until the bushings start to compress. Do yourself a big favor and go to Summit Racing and buy greaseable d-bushings and brackets. They come with a zerk fitting so you don't have to take everything apart just to grease the bushings. I've got 35mm fronts and 22mm backs. A lot cleaner and faster to grease! Now, about that popping noise...I had done some work on the back of my car not long ago and started getting a popping sound I couldn't find. It drove me nuts. After much searching, I found the source. It was the latch for the rear seat back....yep. Drivers side seat latch wasn't lining up with the post. Shimmed the latch with some washers and fixxed the popping noise. Mine would pop over railroad tracks or driveway approaches. Might not be your problem, but it's one more place to look. Good luck.

This weekend I will be rolling my fenders so while the rear is up I will be loosening the D bushings and end links, greasing the D bushings and re-tightening them down.
(How tight in a sense should they really be if I were to use a torque wrench?) Not very tight I'm getting lol
I think I tightened the D bushings too much come to think. Them being on the rear axle something told me to tighten them down more so than the end links.
Oh and I would check the backseat man, but its not there lol
Thank you all again for the advice.

What happens if you disconnect the endlinks.. then try to rotate the bar within the d-bushing mounts on the axle? If it wants to stay put and won't rotate by hand, then maybe you can prove this is the popping issue? The bar should rotate freely within these d-bushings.
