Brake suggestions for lt1?
Hi,
Have: 1995 camaro z28 with 18inch forgestar and stock brakes with worn out pads.
Want: 2 piece blank rotor (Brembo?)...not drilled or slotted.
4-6 piston caliper
Pads...hawk or ebc
For: street use only...want upgrade and esthetic improvement.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Ok. I've researched this and seem to be spinning in circles...
Not very easy to find blank 2 piece rotors. Brembos are 1700.00 for a pair.
DBA 5000 is 800.00 pair and they're slotted.
I was thinking of the DBA 5000 in front and DBA 4000 in rear.
http://www.hawkpadsdirect.com/DBA-29...ors-s/7545.htm
The 5000 fit a z06 but are not listed for the 98-02 camaros...I guess because of stock wheel size? If I do a ls1 spindle upgrade with my 18 inch wheels I'm thinking that would allow them to fit.
Then the calipers I'm looking at are the willwood FLS. With hawks ceramic pads.
Any comments?

Racing Brake makes a 2-piece rotor that's around $900 for the pair. It can be made to fit anything you want. C6Z06 calipers, Gen 5 Brembos, etc. And it would be hub-specific to the LT1 or LS1 spindles if you upgrade them. That's because the aluminum hat will be made for your car and the iron disc will be made for whatever caliper you want to affix to your vehicle. I looked into doing that for the Gen 5 Brembos.
If you want a Wilwood kit, just buy an engineered kit from them. They come with 2-piece rotors, pads, and calipers. The SL6 caliper is a narrow caliper and will fit a lot better than some of the larger calipers, but it's not quite as stiff.

I recently did an LS1 front brake swap on my car and it made a dramatic difference. The LS1 setup isn't as aesthetically pleasing as say a BBK but it works significantly better than LT1 brakes and is a cheap swap. The C5Z upgrade is a good bang for the buck as well and looks great IMO. Just food for thought.
Check out Stoptech street performance pads. I've run Hawks for years and like them but recently starting using the Stoptech's and they are great. From the research I've done, most people who have run both prefer the Stoptech's. (The street performance pads are most similar to Hawk HPS).
My Dad ran DBA rotors on his GTO which were great quality and worked well.

I'll never understand wasting money on brakes for "looks".
Do yourself a favor and save money by upgrading to LS1 brakes and paint them a pretty color. If the stock LT1 brakes didn't suck so much I wouldn't even tell you to upgrade at all for a street car.

I went with the ctsv from Brembo upgrade, and I can tell you it is night and day difference from the ls1 brake upgrade I did. They don't fade and grab very well.
I would highly recommend doing this upgrade. Only downside is having to do a 18" front wheel. For myself I had C5 Z06 rims, 17 in front and 18 in the rear. Found someone selling another set of the same, so I put the 18's on the front and sold 4 17 rims/ tires.
