Default F-body rear bump stops on the cheap

Bump stops on my 00 SS have been in need of replacement but the $70+ dollar to replace them had me putting it off. I came across info about using jeep bump stops and ordered them. Here are photos of the a comparison between the OEM stops complete with a few photos of what it takes to make it all happen using the OEM spacers

Well worn out bump stop on passenger side

Here is a photo of the spacer clamped in a vise after I used a sawzall to cut off the step(done is about 45 seconds flat).

Installed back on car. As good or better than OEM. Energy Suspension 9.9137G are the parts I used. Red ones are available too for you flashy guys.

I did this on my last SS. It's a necessity on my new one. I'll be doing this again.

FYI UMI and strano carry rubber replacements which play nicer with lowered cars than the poly jeep mounts.

Good to know. Looks like Strano also has a good fair price on them. I suspect UMI has a similar price of below $30.

What exactly is the point of bump stops? The old owner of my car ground them off lol

to keep your axle from slamming into the bottom of your car when you hit either a bump or a pothole. That way your tires dont hit the wheel wells, your shocks don't over compress, and your springs don't bottom out. If you are on any kind of lowering spring they are pretty much a necessity, especially on crappy roads. I'd say the same for stock springs too.

I ordered the UMI ones from ws6store for $27. That's a cool mod OP but honestly wouldn't be worth my time when replacement rubber ones are that cheap.

I think you'll still need to trim that metal lip with the UMI ones, but I don't see that as an issue. And this is one of those cases where even if your car is very performance oriented I'd vote rubber over poly.

I should have researched a bit more to realize there were some rubber ones in this price range. The ones i've seen were like $80-$90.... which I thought was insane for bump stops. These poly ones from Energy are reasonably soft but may not be near as soft as the rubber ones. Now I'm curious.

It happens. As I understand it the UMI rubber ones came about as part of designing their new coilovers with strano because the poly ones were causing some seriously erratic behavior in performance situations. I'm running the same coilovers so that's enough of a reason for me.

We are currently making a spacer for our stops so you won't need to trim the lip. The kit will run around $50 and will be done very soon.

I've had the jeeps on my car for years with no issues at all. They are bump stops and are not worth any more than $10. Spend your money as you will.

Thing is, if all you care about is going in a straight line your bumpstops probably won't matter. But if you're running a high performance (especially lowered) suspension tuned for handling, you better believe the bumpstops play a key role.

Don't the Jeep bumpstops offer more clearance for running wider wheel/tire setups?

Im not certain about that. But the photos in my original post show that there isn't much difference in size.

I installed new rubber stops from Strano and left the spacer out, just need to trim the stop on one side to clear the lip.
