Default How much can you narrow the rear end without cutting/hammering?

I am ordering a rear end soon but I need some advise on how narrower to order. I don't want to cut/grind/hammer anything. I will like to fit 275/60/15 tires under the fender without rolling the lip. I currently run F-body specific Race Stars(7.25 backspace I think) but I am willing to buy new rear wheels. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The biggest determining factor will be backspace versus rear end width. You can get away with a 275 without any real clearancing. I have a 3rd gen width rear (1.5" per side narrower than stock) and run a 15x10 5.5" BS and it fits very nicely. My fenderwells were already clearanced for a 325, but I currently have a 295 with about 1.5" to spare to the inside and the tire is tucked into the fender well slightly. My car is very low. I have also seen may people run 3" per side narrower with 4.5" BS. It depends on the fitment you want in the fenderwell. If you prefer it to be flush, tuck in, desired amount of wheel lip, ride height etc.

Purchase the wheels and tires you want with the amount of "lip" you prefer for looks then set them up in the vehicle and give whomever is building your rear end that measurement and they can build the rear end accordingly.

This is the proper way to figure out how much to narrow a housing based off your own preferences.
