Right, but would definitely not work with a factory 17" wheel with the larger rotors and z51 calipers I would assume.

on my stock zr1s the barrel is almost exactly .5'' clearance to the closest point on the caliper. Lets just say the 345mm z51 setup would be a go for 18'' wheels. Still a great budget bolt on solution for oem brembos.

It has been some time since I saw the thread on the 6 and 4 piston V setups, but what is the clearance for the 6 piston CTSV brakes on an 18'' wheel. Any grinding?

Aint nothin but a peanut. Can you list the parts you ordered and what wheels you will be fitting up?

ARP 2.5'' studs and 1/2'' spacers are not on the list and are needed for most factory fit wheels. I believe ARP offers a 3'' stud as well but 2.5'' works to reuse the factory lug nuts and black caps. I also replaced my stock rubber lines with dorman parts H620066/67.

I had a bad hop on one of my hubs so I replaced both and pressed the arp studs in the new hubs with a hydraulic press. I wouldn't recommend hammering studs out of a factory hub.

How much better stopping power than the roto package/hawks pads from ws6store can be had with the setup you think?

Isnt this just an OE replacement kit? Coincidentally I had slotted rotors and Hawk HP pads from ws6store - attached. The setup was good for oe replacements, but the sound they made under heavy braking was terrible. I guess my answer is-brembos are more powerful even with a small change in diameter - compared to BIG brake kits, and the pedal travel is less because brembos bite faster... This doesn't necessarily make them stronger, but they are by design and they feel nicer for street driving. IMHO The setup is functional, pad selection is larger, and tires are cheaper sticking with 17s.

Next time I have the car out I will take some more pictures.

Correct, the slotted rotors mentioned from ws6store is what I have now with the Hawk HP pads and surprisingly it's very quiet on my car. No squealing under heavy braking. So the brembos bite faster and feel nicer which is great, but did you notice that your time to.... say.... go from 60mph to 0mph is decreased with your new setup? It's all about stopping quicker for me. Like you, I wonder how much better the c7 z51 calipers with the 345mm rotor would do for us.

For me it was only during high speed heavy braking... it was a very quick groan/whomping noise. After swapping plain rotors in the rear some much of it went away, but still apparent from the front of the car. Not noticeable during regular driving.

I have never bothered to time or measure the performance of the oe setup.... therefor do not have an accurate answer for you. However, I am confident enough to say that the car is now much more equipped for heavy braking. While they do look better, I only swapped for performance. Consequently, I gained another inch of track on the front of the car.

Definitely keep us updated when you get them installed. I have the same wheels so Im curious as to how well they will fit with the 10 spokes vs the zr1 wheels.

How big of a spacer did you use? Got a pic of the wheel in relation to the fender? Did you paint/ powder coat them?

Thumbs up

Hats off to you sir, I went with 1st gen CTS-V brakes. When I was looking into these, there wasn't much info on them and I remember the price being a lot higher for the calipers compared to the 1st gen V's, which doesn't seem to be the case here.

Nice thing about this setup is with the Corvette rotor, you don't need to have the center bore opened up like I need to do with the 5th gen Camaro rotor, which is nice to save a trip to the machine shop.

I'd be curious if the older style 17" WS6 "sportlines" would clear these without a crazy big spacer. I have a soft spot in my heart for those wheels.

One nice thing about this upgrade that I've seen from looking at it closely... you can do DBA T3 ClubSpec 4000 Rotors and Ferodo DS2500 pads... which would be a very nice mild track/aggressive street setup. The Rotors run about $150-160 each and the pads are about $250 and those pads are awesome.

The C7 Z51 caliper fits stock SS wheels. Didn't measure the closest point between the caliper and the wheel barrel but it is a tight fit maybe 2mm on the top and bottom of the caliper, the side has more clearance more than 5mm.

Mockup in the photos is with LS1 rotors since I'm still waiting for the stoptech rotors which seem to be on back order.
