I work with a guy who had an alignment business and has been doing alignments longer than I've been alive (34 years) I asked him what they are called and he said correct they are not macperson struts but they aren't normal shock absorbers, when they first came and it with the design they were called SuperStruts.

Ive never heard that term and googled it, google came up with this:

So they are not superstruts either, they are coilover shocks like we have always said on here. There is an upper A-arm, struts do not use an upper A-arm at all, that is what a coilover shock design uses.

Strut vs shock, which one looks like ours?

So why are they called Strut Tower Braces? Some companies call them shock tower braces, but the majority of companies call them Strut Tower Braces.

not sure but when you think about it mounts to neither it goes onto the studs for the shock mount. its more like a inner fender brace than anything haha

Simply incorrect wordage. 4th gens have coilover shocks, not struts. Struts do not have upper control arms, coilovers do.

Misnomers, most likely stemming from 3rd gens. Those DO have struts. 4th gens have a short/long arm front suspension with coilover shocks.
