The previous owner of my car tossed out a lot of stuff I can live without, but ABS is something I don't want to not have when I need it.

The module is still in the car, and all of the wheels have speed sensors still in them. The car doesn't have traction control, but the rear has been replaced with an LS1 unit and I'm not sure what to look for to see if it's 3 or 4 channel.

There are no lights on the dash, but I don't know how he went about making that happen. Any insight on this would be appreciated.

what year is the car? 98 and older can get the dash lights out with little effort. 99 and up there is no way that im aware of to "cheat" them off.....you can either black them out in the cluster, or pull the cluster and the break the bulbs. do you have an ASR switch next to the fog light switch? if not this process will get pretty involved. do you want traction control as well or just ABS

I forgot to mention that it's a 96. I don't really want traction control, unless there's a way to retrofit a system with stability control from a newer car. It's not that important though.

FWIW,, 96 is on the edge, ABS that year and older was fairly primitive and I never found it to work as well as the newer versions.. you may be doing a lot of work for little gain, If you've driven that vintage of ABS and like it that's a whole different angle.

I'd start with a wiring diagram and identify all the "boxes" then see which ones are there, then make sure the harness is complete, then do the same with the brake manual, make sure all the mechanical pieces are present and that there are no extras, (Proportioning valves are matched to the system. )

Its definitely an easter egg hunt to replace some auto systems once they are deleted..

if the car you have aka the 96 didn't have ASR than basically there is no way to make this work again without a ton of effort.......we need to know if the car is ASR equipped or not

How can I find if my car has ASR? And if this is gonna be that difficult, I'm not opposed to selling the car and buying a newer one that hasn't been modded.

Then ur pretty much fucked. The rear needs to be modified by drilling a hole above the pumpkin for the wheel speed sensor. Cars with just abs have one sensor in that location. Then you need to add the reluctor inside your rear. The easiest would be to get another rear with just abs with this stuff already done to it. Don't wanna swap rears? Get a new car or deal with what u got. It would suck if the module went and that's why he deleted, you get everything hooked back up only to find a shot module then have to get a new one.

Also if the module controls the brake bias so If the lines are still hooked to that and u have no proportioning valve, ur currently running a poor 50/50 bias which also isn't good

The 4 channel rear has the reluctor at each wheel which is why your current one won't work without modifying but there are some 3 channels out there which is what you need.

I appreciate the advice. I'll have to see if the rear the previous owner installed is a 3 or 4 channel rear.

u already said it has wheel speed sensors at each wheel.....thats a 4 channel. 3 channel rears which is what you need has 1 sensor located above the center of the pinion yoke

I assumed that it had one at each wheel, I haven't actually looked at the rears for sensors. I know I've seen at least one sensor, so the next time I crawl under the car I'll take a better look.
