Stock height, stock spring, zero racing...Which replacement shocks?
Okay I have the engine out, and the k-member sitting on the floor. And it looks to be a good time to replace the OE 1995 Decarbon shocks on my Z28. So I want to maintain stock ride height and springs.
So what would be the ideal set of value minded replacement shocks. I simply dont need any mega racing performance shocks. Just something that will drive nicely. But I dont want crap shocks from the parts house. So there are AGX, Koni STRT, Bilstein. Maybe some others.
The Koni STRT are in my budget. And the Bilsteins are a bit higher, but not out of the question. I guess I am not totally oppsed to a shock/spring combo...is there really a need?. But I want stock ride height due to LT headers, and my *** is getting old.
BTW, Cant call Sam. Out till Oct 1st.

Koni Yellow (single adjust) are the best, even for stock springs and non-racing. I have them on my TA. On full soft, they are sure a little firmer (all new shocks will feel firmer than your old worn out mushy shocks), but not harsh. If you turn them up to full firm it makes an extremely noticeable difference driving around town. I used to have stock springs but now am using Strano springs. IMO adjusting the shock makes more difference than the spring change, in average driving.

I'd guess the insulator will probably be OK, but I would recommend replacing the strut mount (large rubber piece). I kinda think of the mount as a large bushing, the rubber gets dry and worn out with that much age and use.
When I tore mine apart it was ALL extra rusty and pretty much everything needed replacing, but I live in MN and the car most likely was driven a couple winters...
When I first pulled my front suspension apart I replaced everything but the springs. Ride was very nice and comfortable with everything stock except for the Bilsteins..

It's really going to depend on things like mileage, years, environment, etc...In my case my stuff was fine so I reused it. At 90k and 17 years old the parts were fine, but the car has never seen snow or salt either
