Default Yay or Nay: Stock springs and shocks for racing...

Assuming this is a stock geared (for now) M6 and you have ALL of the other suspension goodies (LCA's, SFC's, etc). Also, the car will be raced on the street with DR's.

If nay, what would you guys suggest?

If your serious I would atleast invest in some drag shocks. Even on the street they make a big differance. I run QA1 "R" series in the front and regular QA1's out back.

How crucial are the springs compared to a good set of shocks?

I've never tried drag springs or stock springs with drag shocks but my lowering springs are stiffer than the factory. On a drag radial I can cut low 1.60s at the track so I would think shocks are more crucial than the springs. I'm not sure how much wieght transfer you could get out of a factory shock. You could probrably get half decent results just doing front drag shocks and leaving the rear stock. Unhooking or removing your sway bar will also help loosen up the front of the car.

so.. you dont even need your front swaybar on your car? how much would that effect handling?

at the track it isnt necesary since your going basically in a straight line and you want to transfer more wight to the rear. the tires lift. Steering wil be a bit "loose", like your piloting a boat or something similar.

on the street, i would keep mine on, to much flexing under cornering to not have in tightened up.

If you have front shocks that you can really stiffen up, driving on the street with no front swaybar is no big deal. In the summer I daily drive mine with no front swaybar and the handling is good. I've gone into off ramp corners way to fast and I was surprised at how well the car had handled. I wouldn't road race or purposly rip around corners all the time without one but I feel that it's by no means dangerous on street car.

wouldnt a "to stiff" setting in the front cause to much stress on the front-end components?

Yeah, I imagine if you set it really stiff over time it would start wearing on components and the shocks themselves. You really don't have to go extremly stiff, just enough to keep the front of car from rolling to much in the corners.
