Default Best Subframe Connectors?

After getting subframes put on a car a lil while back, its something I'll most likely do on every vehicle I ever own lol....

So, what is (in everyones' opinions) the best subframe connectors out there for a 1999 Trans Am?

Thanks,

-Will

Depends on what you do. For me, I've applied some serious side loads on my chassis with and without the subframe connectors and I was using KBDD. Nothing has changed, basically no vibrations or noticeable chassis flex. Who know's, my chassis might be a well made one.

I am planning on installing BMR SFC's in the near future. I have their LCA's and they are great. I plan on sticking with BMR because I can get the parts in Hugger Orange! Yeah baby.

UMI 3pt tubular. I installed them and they are bad ***. They tuck up well and leave plenty of clearance for the road ahead.

Questions:
a. Do the UMI and/and or SLP 3 point SFC's have their tube ends sealed off against water etc (I can't tell from pics on the UMI and SLP sites)...?
b. How much do the UMI and SLP 3pt SFC's weigh...?
c. I take it that the UMI ones give you good ground clearance; how does SLP ground clearance compare...?
d. When jacking up car, can you put jack pad under the SFC...?
e. Does any one have pics of either installed (showing espcially how the SFC connects at the rear)...?

Thanks, appreciate it,
Cheers,
Joe

Hello Joe,

A. Yes our SFC's are capped off to prevent water and other debris from entering.
B. Our 3-Points weight in at 36 lbs. a set
C. We have tucked the connectors up to the floor pan as tight as possible. Our center braces are actually bent to form the floor for the best possible clearance.
D. You can jack the car up but the SFC, just use a rag so you don't scratch them!
E. Below is a picture of the rear mount, it also shows the end capped off.

Hope that helps and please ask if you have any questions. Thanks!
Ryan

Ryan, thanks for the info; red is good, but black has the sleeper/oem look, I have to choose (...or get both...); I'll order soon.

I don't have them listed in my sig as I haven't had a dragstrip pass with them yet, but I think the Spohn tubular chrome-moly subframe connectors are good enough, because, IMHO, 2 point subframe connectors are sufficient and the Spohn chrome-moly's only weigh 13.5 lbs. I've read that 3 point subframe connectors are overkill as their extra stiffness would only benefit a dinosaur chassis like the fox-body. Worst of all, they're freakin' heavy.

As expected, my car really didn't feel any differently after they were installed, because I drive like an old lady and my car has a solid roof. I only bought them to minimize quarter panel dimples and to keep my subframes straight for the life of the car. I'm not expecting them to help in the quarter mile.

Default What about the converibles?

In my convertible i have bad wheel hop upon launch.

what suspension upgrades are recommended for the convertibles? None of the UMI subframe connectors appear to be compatible with convertible. Anyone else out there struggling with this?

Me too, but mine are also seam welded around the contact points. Yes, they are waaaayyyy too heavy and probably overkill (especially on a hardtop), but I expect to keep this car for 200K++, so they might be justified. BTW, I thought they were only about 35#/set, but after hearing the UMIs were 36#/set, I'm thinking the SLP bolt-ons are 40-45#+ (anyone know for sure??). If you ever plan on putting a full cage in your car, these things become redundant/useless.

I zip around the freeway on-ramp (270 degree tight turn) at about 50-60 MPH and I can hear the body, dash and T-tops making all kinds of strange noises; so I'm shopping for SFC's.

I do like the idea of the 3 pt SFC (triangulation, right...?), and I am only 150 lb, so the extra 15-20 lbs (or so) for 3 pt vs 2 pt doesn't really worry me (... lol, this is a good excuse for engine mods "...to offset the extra weight of SFC's..." lol )...

I like the tubular look and ground clearance of UMI (36 lb for the set);
what is the weight of the SLP and the Sphon SFC's...?
Are the Sphon 2 or 3 pt...?
Any close up pics of either...?
Any pics of how the SLP's mount on...?
