Stock Brakes Suck...Which Aftermarket Brakes To Get??
Hey guys, my stock brakes suck...I need something that will really pull the car down you know...but I'm not about to spend $1000 on a brake upgrade kit. So, does it matter what kind of drilled/slotted rotors I get? I know there are many different kinds available and they all seem to be made from a different brand 'blank', so is there anything I should know before I buy some b/c they look good? What pads do you guys recomend w/these kinds of rotors?
Thanks,
Jacob
Thanks,
Jacob

Cross-drilled rotors are not an upgrade.
Check out this thread:

If you really want to upgrade your brakes, get larger rotors, more aggressive pads and stickier tires.......yes I said tires too. Tires are your car's contact with the ground. Once you lock up your brakes, its your tires that are limmiting your stopping ability.
You dont need a "big brake kit" to get larger rotors either. You can upgrade to Corvette 13" front rotors with a relocation braket. Also, pad selection makes a big difference in braking performance.

I don't know why you think the brakes suck, and suspect
maybe you won't be happy with anything that doesn't
lock up the wheels (which won't happen with ABS). I
have yet to see my brakes let me down and haven't even
had to use full pedal pressure.
Simplest improvement would be had with higher-friction
pads. Also change out fluid for the best high temp fluid
you can get, if you plan on spiking the brakes from high
speed often. And, as has only been said a few hundred
times before in this forum, stay away from slots, holes in
your rotors, they only are stress features from which to
crack. Then, a few hundred dollars later you will know
the true meaning of "suck".
My next set of pads, once stockers get worn, will be the
Carbotech "Bobcat" series. Just going by the description
on their site, few users I've seen but improved friction
(cold and hot) and low dust are claimed.
Pad selection is full of compromises and application specific.
Rotors, all you want is "don't crack", and "don't warp". You
can't have a totally warp-immune rotor. Only less or more.
Research the pads throughly and have to be honest with
yourself; you can buy the mondo race super high temp
pad and then still complain that your brakes suck just
because 99.6% of the time you never got them hot enough
to see the designed grip.

All I know about those kits is that they exist.
Here are some threads on the subject:

There are many more threads on the subject, but the search feature isn't working.

Do the LG conversion kit. There brackets are 250, you can use your stock calipers, pads and lines. Just need the brackets and a pair of front C5 rotors. I have a complete install guide for the LG brackets. LG C5 Brake Install

OK, so given all of the above mentioned info. where do I get some rotors that won't warp every 4 months like mine are now? Also, is there a way to keep the outer edge of the rotor from rusting? I'm going to paint the hat on the next set, but I don't think I can do that on the outer edge...? Thanks for all your help guys. Since it's the pads that moreso effect performance...what pads should I get for my Daily Driver? I'm not looking to lock up the wheels, just want better/stronger response from the pedal and a little stronger stopping.

A front set of Brembo's and HPS's is $205... I'm also a sponsor, and I'm actually here for advice.
We also have other options. I use PBR front pads, which are $60 vs. $80 for HPS's, and I find them to have better initial bite, and similar power and performance to the HPS's. So cheaper and better response, win-win and I use them on my car. Also, if you don't need rotors, don't buy them. If you do (warped, worn, etc), then Brembo's are the only way to go. Very tough, not expensive and very proven.
