Default Stock tires blow - 99 F-body?

I've owned a couple of F-bodies that came wth the Goodyear F1 tires.

I think these tires blow (no pun intended).

The wear characteristics are poor and the handling is moderate. The price is too high and overall, they provide a bad value for the money.

I'm I correct in this view or am I missing something great about Goodyear tires?

It's not all Goodyear tires but the stock F1's do blow, literally. I had one break the bead and come off the rim.

I have tried alot of tires and the Goodyear GS-D3's are arguably the best street tire for our cars if it is not going to see snow..

Michelin Pilot Sports are highly regarded by the Open Road Race crowd, and that is probably the most important application for a reliable tire that is not going to blow. (most ORR deaths are caused by blown tires at 150+ mph.) I think I would also trust BFG KD's and any of the Goodyear race-only tires. Low end Goodyear rubber is crap.

I'm running a German brand now which is OK. I'll have to check the brand name again but I've owned them for a few years with no issues. They seem to wear much better than the Goodyear F1s and the cornering is a tad better...

I run BFG KDW tires, not the best in the world, but they get the job done quite well. Also the price is falling so even better.

I've got Nitto 555's on the front(275/40/17 w/ 300tw), and Nitto 555r's on the rear(315/35/17 w/100tw). I don't have any complaints about them, this is my first set so I'm not sure how long they'll last. Consumer reports claim the 555r drag radials I have on the rear will last up to 12k with normal use. But its getting about that time to start spending sundays at the track so we'll see how long they last. They're not too expensive either. About 165 each for the fronts and 175 each for the rears.

For street driving i would definitly say the BFG KDW's (the old style, not the new) would be the best. I got 30k out of them and they were by far the best tires in the rain i have ever had. They hook pretty good and they corner really well. I had them in 275/40r17. That was when my car was almost stock. If you want to sacrifice the wet performance and a little tread wear then go with the BFG KD's. The KD's are incredible in turning. You can REALLY push them hard in the turns. They wear very well when they are pushed. Those would be my recommendations. I have also heard VERY good things about the new Goodyear GS-D3's; however i am not a goodyear fan. The pilot sports get greasy when they get hot so i would stay away from them. The PS2's though are MUCH better.

I owned Cooper tires on one 95 SS I had. They were dirt cheap and were a good value for the money.

All the Goodyear tires I have ever owned seemed to suc... One F1 tire blew out at highway speed at 12K miles... it was not worn out either.... it just blew - BANG - no warning, no tire, no shi#!

Nitto 555 regular street tires are great for normal street driving and don't wear down that much. Let's put it this way, I've gone through two autox seasons on them and plan on doing another season. As long as you arent driving 100+ mph on the street, they should stick to the road fine and perform amazing in the rain.

I don't however recommend buying them to be competitive in a street tire classification. They don't have as stiff sidewalls.

I also didn't like my stock goodyear GS-C tires

I thought the F-1's were great. But the price was the killer when I got new tires. The Nitto's I have for the track suck. The yokohamma Street tires hook the same 60' times.

F1s are almost 300 clams per tire.... rediculous price for a crappie tire... where do they get this nerve?
