Shocks for BMR's?

What are some good choices for shocks to run with BMR 1 inch lowering springs? I know there are probably some good ones... What's the range? The cheapest, the most expensive, the middle of the road, etc... I don't know too much about shocks... :(

Bilsteins run around $350-400. They're pretty popular non-adj shocks.

I suggest a search (not to be harsh, but this covered every week). Bilstein HD's are not meant for lowered cars. If you chose to do that, ok, but you should do your homework first.

I searched with the phrase, "Shocks for BMR springs."

Not one thread popped up related to my thread of a good shock to pair up with the BMR 1 inch lowering springs, specifically.

Anyway, so the HD's are ruled out... What are good matches for the BMR springs?

The only two dampers I would consider are Koni SA's or Sam's revalved Bilsteins, KYB's would work, but they are cheap for a reason.

Thanks! I'll steer clear of the KYB's. This is not the first time I've heard that they're not so great. Cool. :)

I will look into some Koni SA's to start researching.

Any brief rationale on why they're good for 1 inch. lowered cars???

most lowering springs are higher rate. even worse (in terms of dampening), most are variable rate which are even harder to damp (since one minute they are soft and the next they are stiff)

The real issue here is durability. Cheap shocks may offer decent damping with lowering springs at first. But the higher and variable rate issue will wear cheap (aka low quality) dampers out quickly.

The cheapest shocks that are up to the task are Bilsteins (when fitted with appropriate valves)

The cheapest ones that are up to the task out of the box are Koni's

There are others... but they are usually not a direct fit and are very expensive.. Moton and Penske for instance cost a couple grand

BBoy, I am in the same boat as you (same springs even) and I am looking at Sam Stranos revalved Bilsteins. I am not racing so I think the Konis are a bit over the top for me. I will wait till I have the money and actually call him to make my final decision but that is the way I am leaning.

bboyferal Mar 17, 2006 10:16 PM

Cool.

What do you mean by "over the top," though? You mean price, ride, etc.?

OldeSkool Mar 18, 2006 12:15 AM

he probably means price, and some people are intimidated by adjustability.

But, Koni SA's are not much more expensive than revalves.. not to take away from revalves

Thanks guys.
