Default '97 LT1 Brakes Question

I am looking for a little more stopping power for my '97 LT1, without spending a fortune. Does anyone make just bigger calipers to fit the stock rotors?

Nice car!! I wish I could tell you that a Wilwood caliper will just bolt up, but I can not. I do however have several kits that you may be interested in and are pretty easy on the pocket book. you might consider something like this...

Let me know if you would like to know more,

Friendly regards

The real cheap and effective way to go would be a full set of Hawk HPS brake pads. I have lt1 brakes like yourself and switching to the Hawk pads was like night and day. In the mean time I'm saving up for a full big brake setup mainly to fill out my 18"s.

VictorT, depending on how much that kit costs, I may or may not go that route. I am, however, interested in looking into all the various kits! Please inform me on that kit you have posted, and maybe a few of some others that aren't too pricey, as well. Thank you for the compliments too!

93formto98T/A, I was thinking about just buying new, stickier pads, but wouldn't they wear much quicker? I don't want to buy pads at a rapid rate. Please, clue me in if you have any input!

Hi again,

Well we can set you up with a one piece rotor set that looks about like this...

This kit will go for about $1400

Our two piece rotor set up like the one in my previous post goes for around $1650, and all of our kits come ready to bolt on. Let me know if you have any further questions,

Friendly regards

AHHH 1400 bucks? Sorry, that's too much. Maybe I'll just stick with factory for now.

Well if nothing else, consider some Porterfield pads and maybe some braded brake lines. You can also get some OE size rotors, maybe even drilled and slotted. Good luck

Steel lines=no flex in the line under hard braking as opposed to stock rubber lines that will give and flex diminishing braking power.

the lt1 stock 1 piston setup really blows.

You can upgrade to LS1 brakes for about $200, that will make a big difference. People sell conversion kits on ebay all the time.

I put Hawk HPS Pads all the way around on my 95 TA and I have been pleased with the additional stopping performance. This car is my DD and I have put about 40,000 miles on them and still have quite a bit of pad left, the only thing that I have noticed is that they seem to be a little bit rougher on the rotors but not too bad that could just be because I am pretty sure that the rotors that are on my car are factory.

Hi,

With your LT1, you will need 5 total brake lines. I can do all of them for $226 plus S/H ready to go on the car. Let me know if you need additional info,

Friendly regards,

i agree... i have both LT1 and LS1 T/A's and gettin in the LS1 after the LT1 doesnt seem that crazy, but doing the opposite and gettin in the LT1 after the LS1, is rediculous! The LT1 brakes are pathetic in comparison... atleast from my experience... although, i at one point had cheap pads on... last time i went with a OEM pad (bendix) and they're much better... but i'm sure if you get a really good brake you'll be happier... but like i said, i'd do the LS1 conversion...
