Default Transmission crossmember

What's the difference between the transmission crossmember for the 93-02 A4 and the M6? This is removable correct? Need details on it and can they be removed.

They can be removed, but Iwouldnt do that and drive around, it is there to hold the tailshaft of the trany in place. Otherwise it will bounce all over and put way to much stress on the motor/drivshaft.

Can the crossmember be modified to look exactly like the M6?

If I remember right the crossmembers form the A4 and the M6 the bolt holes arent in the same spot, and the design is a little different.
You arnt going to want to try and make the M6 work, the bolt holes have to be real tight fitting so the trans doenst slide bake and forth.

What about using a aftermarket tubular crossmember?

That's a posobility but I dont know if it would help or hurt. I'm trying to install a global west traction link torque arm that was designed for a M6. Heres more details:

http://para.noid.org/98z/traclink.html

"Globalwest has three Tracklink kits for 4th generation F-body cars. They are for 1993 - 2000 cars with manual transmissions, 1993 - 1997 cars with automatic transmissions, and 1998 - 2000 cars with automatic transmissions."

"The difference between these cars are the the beams. The transmission crossmembers are different between these three types of cars."

i need to overcome this difference so I dont get stuck with this TQ arm.
