Front Hal shocks w/ stock springs?

Front Hal shocks w/ stock springs?
Has anyone tried running a set of front Hal shocks w/ the stock springs? I know that Thunder Racing adapts them to fit, so I was just curious. I'm ready to play with the suspension, and I was just curious if this was worth a shot or if I should just go ahead and get all four shocks and front drag springs. I know how awesome the whole setup is since I had it on my T/A; I'm just curious how it would work w/ the stock springs.

Re: Front Hal shocks w/ stock springs?
I had the front Hal shocks with the stock springs and the Thunder Racing modified perch as well as the rear Hals on my 97 T/A. The only problem I had was during the initial ride height setup. The adjusting collar/nut did not turn very smoothly against the perch. When I get a set for the Z I will spend the extra $80 -$100 for the Hal springs. When I sold the car I took the back Hals off but was not able to remove the front shocks so I am using just the rear ones now. I set the RR one or two clicks firmer that the LR. Kind of an airbag effect.

Re: Front Hal shocks w/ stock springs?
I have the Hal, shocks & springs, they sure do work, 60's average 1.52, best of 1.50 (stock motor, all bolt on). But no matter how stiff I set the shock for the street, they seem too mushy & like to float around. I dont like that feeling. So, if there is no difference in the stock or the Hal springs, I would like to go back to a normal spring, (I have Eibach pro sitting in the garage for the fronts). Might have to test that out this year. Is there anyone who has tested with this shock & different springs?

I definitely agree that the front drag springs are too mushy for everyday use. I never found a "happy medium" with the setup on my T/A. Like I've said before, it was either too loose, causing a "hoopty-like" ride, or it was too stiff, giving a firm, bouncy ride. I think it's worth a try to see how the stock springs work with the front Hal shocks. From what some of you are saying, I have high hopes. <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0"> I was ready to lower my car, but I'm too worried about hurting my 60'. I'd be very interested in your results Black Sunshine!

Everyone that I have asked with HAL front springs/shocks say that the car feels too mushy for daily driving with those springs. I've also had HAL vendors email me and tell me that they saw no gains from switching the stock springs out with HAL springs.

I put an Eibach drag kit in my car with the Hal fronts. It's easy to modify the perch to fit stock springs. Since the shocks are adjustable there is no disadvantage to running a looser spring, with my drag springs on the "5" setting the car feels tighter than stock.

I went to Sportlines on my car with KYB AGX adjustables and a BMR rear setup and saw no increase in my 60' times, they were better if anything. Last fall I was cutting high 1.8s on F1s and my car is more stock than most - stock tranny, TC, maybe 320rwhp, etc. I think with the rear properly setup you're 60's won't suffer too much if at all. You're putting down more power at the line than I tho.
