brakes die after driving for a bit ...
ok, so if i drive my car locally the brakes work just fine.
Once I do a long distance trip then the brakes slowly begin to die down and I have to press harder and harder on the brake pedal in order for the brakes to work. It usually takes about 30 minutes of travel before this happens...
any ideas???????

bad brake fluid - when was the last time the fluid was entirely bled from the system?
It's a cheap repair, I would highly recommend switching to DOT 4 though instead of staying with 3.
If the brakes have been bled recently, then I would look maybe closer to the master cylinder. Once the fluid begins to heat up, it may be making it's way past the internal valve seals inside the master.
I would try bleeding the system first before you go any further.
