Bang- Bang I am getting a loud clunk from the rear suspension of my 98 Z-28 when it is fully loaded on one side in a turn. In normal driving, I rarely hear it but at autocross and time trials is loud enough for the corner workers to hear. I have checked all of the bolts and retorqued them. The rear set up is a set of Bilstein re-valved shocks, reinforced lower arms and panhard, all with poly bushings and a LE1 rear swaybay with poly bushings. I think it is either the springs unloading or the shocks at bottoming out. Any ideas?

Re: Bang- Bang I get exactly the same thing. a sharp clacking sound when cornering hard under load. Hope someone can tell us what this sound is <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />
My car has done that for more than a year with no ill effects so far though.

Re: Bang- Bang that clunking that you are hearing is the control arm moving back and forth...
loosen the control arm bolts on the side of the car that has the problem... then make sure the the rear suspension loaded... and tighten the control arm bolts-TIGHT-...
if you have excessive clunking this should get rid of most of your problem... but if you only have a clunk every now and then, it's probably not a big deal

Re: Bang- Bang I noticed that the effect is more pronounced in summer (when the car is hot).
I am going to replace the LCAs with BMR CrMo poly-rubber ones very soon ayway. Will this alleviate the problem?

I have the problem on both sides (never at the same time, it's always the outside wheel in a curve under hard acceleration (or as I noticed a few days ago due to a moron failing to yield) heavy braking.
It happens maybe once every other week, as I usually don't drive that hard.
Anyway, thanks, I will try your suggestion and if it doesn't cure the problem I will live with it <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
