Default Front end grinding...please help me troubleshoot

My 99 Z28 is not doing too well lately, front end keep grinding and still couldn't trace where it came from...it only happens when I take off slowly from a dead stop, it sounds like metal to metal grinding continuosly...something definitely was rubbing against each other!! and it gives me cold chill everytime, the noise disappeared once the car is moving, no grinding in cornering as well so that ruled out the power steering failure (usually power steering would whine if it's going bad), if brake pads or rotors are jacked up then I should hear some squeeking or scratching noise when i apply the brake, I had already replaced the front pads 3 weeks ago and they're dead quiet when i hit the brake at any given speed, so that pretty much ruled them out too. I'd check the calipers...nuts are tight, should I try to replace them anyway?
I'd also crawl under the car to check all front end suspension stuff but couldn't find a damn thing, all nuts and bolts are tight... everything seems fine, there's no zerk fitting anywhere either so there's nothing to grease, don't think LS1 need to grease linkage or whatnot. Well...i hate asking people for help but I'm running out of idea, if you know what could be wrong please let me know.
BTW, I have 105K miles on my Z.

It started immediately after a brake pad replacement?

hmmm ...

How did the dust boots look on the caliper pistons? If they are breached and have been for a while, there could be some corrosion on the piston sidewall causing the piston to bind and not fully releasing the brakes.

Might check the hubs as well. With 105K, you might have a bearing out.

One other guess might be the pad itself. If it's a high metal content pad, you could be hearing it rubbing against the rotor ...

All the above are just guesses ...

now that you'd mentioned the dust boots on caliper pistons, well...when I replaced the pads, one of them dust boot was ripped up, it seems like the piston could come all the way out but I used a compress tool to push it back in tho, maybe the piston was moving around and like you said it's unable to fully releasing the brake? could it be the problem?

As for the bearing, I thought about that but it's quiet impossible for bearing to generate that kind of hardcore metal to metal grinding noise, if bearing is going bad then I assume I should hear it at any given speed. I have the autozone $35 pads, i think it's semi-metallic... brake pads should squeek if they were bad tho, don't think they could grind like this unless they were made of 100% solid metal.

There is nothing holding that piston in the housing except for the rotor and brake pad when installed.

They just pop out.

The caliper rebuild kit is PN 18026160

It will take care of one piston. There are 2 per caliper. Go to www.installuniversity.com and look up a write up I did on a caliper rebuild.

Not a hard job, just need some patience ...

I would start looking at the pads. Ican pretty much say thats your problem. I would start w/this diagnosis.
1.In the AM push up and down on your front to let the suspension travel and listen for a noise.
2.Look threw your wheels and your going to probably see a light layer of rust on the rotor surface caused by the AUTO ZONE pads. (high metal content) I never use pads from that store. Either invest in good aftermarket pads or go back to OEM DELCO pads, machine your rotors and you should be okay
3.If you have a bearing problem listen for a change in the noise when your turn curves to shift weight which will load the bearing on the opposite side.

Hey, my car did the same thing for about 3 weeks. Only did it in the mornings as I would back out of my driveway, then it would go away. Loud as heck. Sound is exactly as you describe. It quit making the noise last week. I replaced my rotors and pads a few thousand miles ago. Don't know what it was.
