Full Rt or Lft turn from stop > Front wheels jump and skid
I know, from the subject of this post, it makes no sense.
Anyway, lets say I am at a dead stop. Turn the steering wheel full right or left, and then start very slowly moving forwards. What happens is that the front tires feel like they are skipping or sliding or jumping, if you know what I mean. I know it sounds silly, but if it happens to your car, you know what I am talking about. It seems to have gottin worse lately. This 98 TA has the standard 275/40-17 tires with 9" rims on it (ZR-1). The tires are wearing evenly and are at the correct air pressure.
Anyone know what I am talking about, or have an idea whats going on? I wouldn't think the ball joints are wore out. BTW, the car has 36,000 miles on it.
Thanks,
Ron

Wow, that's pretty crazy . Have you tried turning the wheel to the lock and then getting out and checking your clearances? How slow do you have to be going for this to not occur? On another note, do you have the stock rearend or an aftermarket? I'm not too well verset in differentials, but I'm wondering if it's trying to lock up on you and pushing just as strong from both sides. That might cause your car to push through the sharp turn. One way or another GL!

How is your alignment. how often have you lubed everything. in my previous 89 camaro, I had the same problem your descibing. turned out it was out of alighment(Camber) and I didn't lube all the suspension, tie rods, and such every couple thousand miles so they just kinda seized up and wore out....I think that's how I would describe it. either way your car is getting up there in mileage. take a good look at your cars suspension, the answer may be there.

my '89 is doing the same thing and i even went as far as changing the whole steering linkage. my tires are really bad. i was told that due to them being bald they were just sliding along the ground. My ball joints were bad too, i need to change them.
Look at the condition of ur tires.
Also check ball joint play.

Yes I know exactly what you are talking about.
Only happens when the tires are cold (555RII).
For me it is combination of cold tires the limited slip causing this for me When doing LtoL in reverse or forward from a stop. Mine is normal.

Getting up there in the mileage? Mine has twice that and is the same model year
My first though was to check the camber as well. I don't lubricate any of my stock suspension. As far as I recall it doesn't need it from the factory.
My ball joints were still OK about a month ago when I upgraded the upper A-arms. Nothing wrong with the arms, just wanted more negative camber & positive caster without lowering the car.
My first thought was your alignment How's the power steering pump & fluid?
