Default Anyone considered V6 shocks on a LS1 fbody?

I've noticed how nice the ride is in my friends V6 firebird. His car rides at factory height with 17" wheels. My car (99 firehawk) is now lowered with eibach prokit springs and I know i need new shocks. Before paying nearly $100 bucks a piece for bilstein HDs i was wondering if anyone has taken a chance with v6 shocks? anyone think i should try it?

Not what I would suggest, but then again that is JMHO. It is your coin, your car, and your kidneys...

Why would you want to downgrade to the V6 springs?

yeah im talking about the shocks in the rear only. i was looking at shocks online and here is a link:
http://www.performancemarket.com/per...=26&category=9

this Tokico shock is more expensive than bilsteins HDs and it is manufactured for a V6 fbody or a V8 fbody with 1" drop...what I'm getting at is maybe using a V6 shock wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Also has anyone had problems with their bumpstops deteriorating?? Mine are crap!

Don't the V6 f-bodies have the same Decarbon shocks as it's V8 counterpart? Or are you talking about buying new shocks, but for a V6?

<--- has a 6

I am fairly certain we all have deCarbons. At least that's what I tore off when I replaced them with the yellow and blues.
I also think that most manufacturers of aftermarket just make one fbody shock since v6/v8 fits both. If they say there are two seperate ones, check the P/Ns, and possibly ask about the bump and rebound on each.

Also, OEM GM spring rates in the rear for v6 and v8 are the same: 114
Fronts are slightly different. If you have 1LEs on yours (firehawk), they are stiffer by a bit, and progressive I believe 130-180. That may be what you are feeling.

I'll second that back in the day, my V6 rode much nicer than my LS1.

If I'm not mistaken, they're the same shocks. The V6 just has less weight on the front end, hence the different ride.

my front end rides okay with lowering springs and factory struts. its a little stiff, but doesn't bother me. on the other hand my rear end is crap.

***Does anyone know which shock will give me the softest smoothest ride with eibach prokit lowering springs?? i know nothing about shocks, adjustable shocks, gas shocks, air shocks, how they adjust, or which ones to get!

I didn't know that! I have a 94 v6 and my brother used to have a 95 z28, rear suspension was much stiffer on his than mine, the whole susp setup was all factory original even with 232,000 miles on that car, while mine has over 164,000 now.
