another z06 brakes thread
looks like the c6 z06 brakes are only $789 + shipping for the front straight from GM, i went and priced the c5 z06 brakes to verify that i was actuallu lookingat c6 z06 parts. the c5 front parts come out to $366.60 + shipping, both kits are for front rotors, pads, and calipers.
now sponsors offer the c5 kit for around $770 which includes the above plus brackets and new hardware. or i can just get the c6 z06 kit for $1000 if you throw the brackets in, i think my mind is pretty much made up, i like the looks of the c6 z06 brakes and i doubt the backwards rotor on the RF is gonna affect my style of driving much...thanks for your advice lol...

That price sounds awful low, I'd double check that. Remember it takes 6 pads per caliper and that sounds like the price on just part of the stuff you'll need (I thought one of my customers said he paid about $1800 for all of it). You'll also need 18" wheels to clear it all. If the price is right and you have the wheels, you're on your way.

maybe close to $1800 if you include rears, but GM lists the pads as a "pad kit" in either front or rear, front is $205, no other info on what they come with, the calipers are around $200 each, rotors are cheap. what else am i missing? for comparison the c5 z06 parts are all around half the cost of the c6 z06, i.e. $100 for calipers and $55 for rotors, it is all clearly marked at gmpartsdirect...
also, vendors like UMI have the c5 z06 parts at close to $130 a caliper while even SDPC has them listed as $95/each...chances are there are similar mark-ups for the c6 z06 parts which wouldnt put $1800 for front/rear out of the question...i thought the prices were a bit low also, but i dont know what else would be involved that could raise the price so high, thew prices i posted are for 2 rotors, 2 calipers, and 1 front pad kit, maybe it takes 2 front pad kits but i doubt it...

For daily driving use, is the C6 Z06 front brakes a big improvement over the C5 brakes. Not the cost for them, but the performace in stopping with a 14" brake system sounds much better than a 12.8 to me.

so C6 Z06 brakes will fit on an f-body with the same adapter plates as the C5 kits use? such as UMI
I was looking at upgrading brakes and its hard to pass up 14" brakes for a grand, still would need SS lines too. Would normal SS lines for f-body brakes work with the C6 Z06 brakes?

Your money is better spent on the C5 Z06 equipment for damn near every application... with the exception going toward the bling factor.
Even the C6 Z06 owners will tell you that the C5 Z06 components are better for track use..... over the C6 Z components. So, if they would tell you that, why would you even consider going the C6 Z route to begin with if there was something better performance wise and cheaper from the get go ??
And the only route the C6 Z guys have, is to step up to an APRacing, Brembo, Stoptech or BAER mono block system over the use of the C5 Z components for track use.
So..... if the C5 Z stuff is Mo better for the track, and I would wager for the street as well, and they are better priced.... why else would someone consider the C6 Z components if not for the bling ??

Yes those prices are correct,I work at a Gm dealer as a tech,I priced them too for my camaro.I just find it hard to believe that the C5 Z06 brakes are better than the C6 Z06's.Why didnt GM just stick with the C5 brakes??I know Ive seen threads about this dilema but oh well

Well, you'll have those that will probably state something about reduced mass and inertia, followed by having correct directional rotor vanes and then maybe something about 20 years of proven service on and off the track with more available brake pads/compounds.
If you search on the C6 Z06 forum of that board you'll find that few are happy with the stock C6 Z brakes.
What are you *really* after in the car? If you want good brakes for not a lot of money go with C5/C6 standard PBR's. They are damn fine brakes and don't have the pad taper issues, pads are cheaper, etc. They just don't look as bling as the C6-Z06 brakes but are probably the BEST brakes in terms of price/performance out there for street cars.

i dont AX/RR, probably never will, if anyone has facts stating the c6 z06 are unsafe for daily driving speak now, otherwise i cant see a problem if i am not going to AX/RR...
i mean the c6 z06 brakes are being put in a class with drilled and slotted rotors, these brakes cant possibly suck that bad especially for my intended use. but please keep going because i like to take all the facts and weigh my options from there...

There were some threads on another forum (I forget where) where the Z06 owners were complaining that the calipers were flexing and the pads were wearing in an odd tapered pattern under hard use and that the pads were expensive and wore quickly. For street use, this might not be a problem. But it's good to know these things before they come up and not after.

You can get a complete C5 Z06 front brake kit for your F-body for just over 350 bucks if you know where to go. There is a non sponsor site that sells the brackets for next to nothing, you can reuse your stock calipers if you want as they are the same, the blank rotors from Napa are 25 bucks each, and buy Hawk pads for 85 bucks. Add c5 front brakelines, which this company also sells, and you can get the entire front kit for 350 or so.
Upgrading to the C6 Z06 will take a different adapter bracket. The bracket for the C5 kit moves the caliper out enough for 13" rotors. You need it out more to move to 14". i've never heard of the c5 brackets not working for the c6 z06 kit, if i am not mistaken the c6 z06 stuff will bolt right up to a c5 and it is the caliper its self that has clearance for the 14" rotor not the bracket that spaces it out, the c5/c6 mounting points should all be the same...if you can prove otherwise feel free to do so...
