Loose as in flopping around in the car or loose as in play in the steering?

The column has 2 support nuts above the brake pedal.

If the steering is loose it could be tie rod ends, steering rack or even a rag joint.

I bet he means the tilt mechanism is trashed and the wheel moves around when driving. Common with this type of GM column, and exactly why anyone who drives my car gets a lesson to NEVER pull on the wheel. The internals wear out, and bolt hold egg out.... really the only fix if this is the problem is a new column.

Actually, GM makes a kit to replace all the bearing inside column. It's only about $25 and is the same kit they've been selling for years.

I trashed my column when installing a quick-disconnect ...
