How critical are double flares VS single flares?
I am re-doing my brake lines as I have removed my ABS and I am wondering how critical it is to make the lines as double inverted flares VS just a regular inverted flare? I have used like 3 flaring tools and I can NOT get the lines to double flare for the life of me, the tubing keeps slipping out of the tool when I try to flare them. I am filing the end of the tube down perfectly square and cleaning up the inside of the tube as well and it just won't double flare. I talked to a couple people and they said it wouldn't be a big deal to just do a single inverted flare as it will still seal against the fittings that I am using. Just wanted to know what everyone else thought about this as well.
Thanks

Yeah I agree, only use double flare. I dont know about you, but my brakes are the last thing I want to fail. Alot of companys selling the linelock kits are modifying there flaring tools. Basically they are putting a bolt threw one of the larger holes and welding it on one side. Then you can clamp it on both sides. I used one that was modified and had no slippage issues.

Pay particular attention to when you're first cutting the line. If you're using a pipe cutter, they can deform the material shrinking it slightly which makes it smaller in diameter. IF a tube slips, its best to consider cutting 1/2" off and starting over as you've probably stretched the tube too small.
You must double flare the line.
