brake problem, what's up?

sitting at a light in gear (auto) holding on the brakes, if i push down harder and move the pedal it makes this popping sound. car also feels like it has a little trouble stopping. takes alot of pedal to start slowing down. any ideas? its hard to describe. i was thinking it could be the calipers since the last time i did a brake job i was in a hurry, wasnt thinking, and didnt uncap the master cylinder before compressing the pistons. and no comments about that are necessary, i know i fucked up lol.

nonetheless i was thinking about doing the full c5 front brake upgrade, but that still leaves my master cyl and abs module that could be jacked up too. i know the master cylinders arent great, i just hope mine isnt bad now..
