Replacing rear shocks...what to get??
My car came with Bilstein Level II suspension and I need to replace the rear shocks. I have a couple questions first though. My goals are drag oriented, but it is a street car. Is there a drag shock that will retain decent street manners, yet help my launch?
If I replace with Bilstein, is there a certain one I need? For instance, would the HD's work, or is there a specific valving that came with the package? I have searched, but I wasn't able to answer my questions. Thanks for any help.

umm that would ride like ****. i would try an adjustable shock for what you want. set it 50/50 or 60/40 for cruising and you actually want the compression tighter for launching. it helps push the tires into the ground.

I thought it was supposed to be soft in the rear to promote good squating when launching. I thought that softness is supposed to make the car squat and promote weight transfer. Am i wrong?

Actually you would like to have anti-squat to promote good traction. This is a very complicated subject and there is a ton of info out there if you decide to research it.

I think your question was what rear shocks, most affordable adjustable street strip shock would be Competition Engineering's 3 way adjustable drag shocks(50/50, 60/40, 70/30) next choice would be a QA1 or HAL 12 way single adjustable for the rear.
Also for drag racing the front would run a 275# spring with an LS1 car, not a 300 and would use a 150# 10" in the rear if you used an adjustable rear mount. If you want to keep your current rear springs, put an air bag in the right rear and start around 15psi. That will help a lot until you get a good anti roll bar.
Also as the other member said, you don't want your car to squat, any motion other than forward is a waste and you only want as much lift as you need, which doesn't require the rear to squat. Autos need more anti squat than a manual.
If you like I can give you some recommended settings and places to start without breaking the bank.
