Wheelhop from different tire stiffness?
Here's the deal. For most of my car's life it's been on ETstreets. Recently I purchased a set of ETdrags (track) and a set of 275/50-15 nitto's (street). The car suffers from SEVERE wheelhop if I try to launch the car on the Nitto's. My suspension setup hasn't changed...only the tires. I never had a wheelhop issue with the ETstreets or ETdrags. Could it just be from the nitto's being stiffer?
Suspension mods are: tubular LCA's, SFC's, PHB , and RR airbag

Re: Wheelhop from different tire stiffness?
Maybe with a stickier tire you don't get the
wheel unstuck. It might have to do with the
difference between static and sliding tire
friction - less than 2:1 difference and you can
spin them both, more than 2:1 difference and the
Torsen split can't direct it all to the good side.
Wheel won't hop unless it's going in and out of
traction.
So the Nittos may just be exposing some room for
geometry improvement (LCA relocation brackets?)
that other tires mask.

Re: Wheelhop from different tire stiffness?
I experienced the same thing going from a 245/50/16 to a 275/40/17. My opinion is that the increased wheel hop is probably the result of the decreased sidewall. When I put the old tires back on the wheel hop is gone. Go figure.

Well I already got some relocation brackets on the way. I think it's just the sidewall difference like you guys said. The brackets should help some..

Re: Wheelhop from different tire stiffness?
Nittos strike again. I had Severe wheelhop and have every suspension part there is short of air bag in springs. LCA and relocation brackets Torque arm, Bilsteins ect ect. Still had wheel hop. The Nittos need to be warm to get rid of it. Last time it was 75 degrees and up I didnt have it but when its cold forget it. I but my bfg kdws from front to back and the car was fine.
