Default How do you know WHEN to change out rotors and pads?

I figure when my brakes are squeaking, they might be telling me to change pads. But sometimes brakes just squeak. And when do I change the rotors?

Is there a place to go to tell me if I am within tolerances?

FYI, I have hawk pads and brembo blanks.

THANKS!

You'd typically change rotors when they wear out below manufacturer specs (either just worn out or too far warped to make a good cut and still be within range). I'm sure this info. can be found at any shop/auto parts store. Brakes can squeak for many reasons inc. pad material etc. Just because it squeaks, it doesn't mean they're junk. Also, some performance pads tend to squeak when their cold.

Everytime I do a brake job, I replace or refinish the rotors.

Refinishing used to be standard stuff but the cost of a new rotor is not too high so many people just go with new.

..yank the wheel and you could get a ruff idea of the pad wear.

as a general rule, it's never a bad idea to replace the rotors...the cost isnt as preventative as it used to be, and there's just something about running thinned out rotors that makes me skin crawl. in spec or not, it just feels like reusing spark plugs to me. i mean, sure, they might be fine, but y take the chance if you don't need to right?

i'd just change the rotors with the pads. i usually don't get a brake job until i warp one of them...i do that a lot
