Default Gave myself a reality check this weekend!

After I purchased my Vette, I made a promise to myself that I would never take my car out if I knew I was going to be drinking. I made that promise because I get a heavy foot when I drink and the last vehicle I need to be in is a supercharged Vette. Well...I drove to my buddy's house Saturday night (sober) to watch the fight and packed my things to stay over night since I planned to drink. Well I decide to drive back home (dumb I know) and came across a car on the way who kept egging me on to race him. So I dropped it in 3rd, hammered the gas, and the *** end of the car broke loose. I seriously thought I was going to lose control and wreck. Thankfully, I got it under control, but I thought for sure I was going to wreck. Keep in mind, I was going around 60 mph. Anyhow, it was a definite wake up call for me and a huge scare. So to all, please be careful with your cars, they're not toys by any means.

Most everyone has done stupid things similar to what you described regarding drinking and driving when they shouldn't have. Next time stay overnight like you mentioned or get a designated driver. You got lucky that you didn't have a wreck or get at DWI.

You're absolutely right and thanks. That'll be the last time. Luckily, only the car and myself were the only ones on the road. This was a 3 am. But if I did wreck and cops showed up at the scene, I would have been really screwed. Not only that, I dropped over 10 grand in my car that I've only had 4 months, so wrecking is the last thing I want to do.

My vette has the Borla exhaust, so it is pretty loud. I have drank and drove several times. Not saying its good to do, just that I have done it. Anyways, now, anytime I drink, I take the car home and pick up my SUV. For some reason if a cop see's a torch red corvette roaming the streets at 2am, they seem to want to follow it. and If I had been drinking, well, bad news for me. But we all arent perfect and if you do decide to drink and drive in your car, DO NOT DO NOT let anybody egg you on. Regardless of where you are. Take the back roads home, and drive safe. Put it on cruise control if need be.

By the way, glad to hear your ok!

I lost a cousin and two friends from durnk driving. Glad it made you see the light. Hell I went to austin in 98 and the non drinker for the night got plasterd I had my 94 Z then everybody met up he wanted to drive my car back I said no and I was in no shape to drive but they left in a gmc truck anyway and I curled up in the back seat of my Z with the sunshade up so the cops dident see me. I puked twice in my Z but hell the others where worst off than me. R.I.P. to the driver and the my boy scott in the back seat on 195.

I know two guys that have gotten a dui while sleeping in their car, one of them didn't even know where the keys were.

Come on guys, this is 1960 where my dad lost half his class to drunk driving. We aren't mustang guys!! Lets be a bit smarter?

A person may have good intentions to not drive after drinking but once the person starts drinking, their thinking is impaired. Next thing you know, they're in the car doing what they told themselves they wouldn't do. Driving.

I don't know the solution for that besides not drinking at all. Maybe having a friend drop them off. Good to see things turned out ok for you.

One big thing people usually overlook is that when you are DWI (according to the laws) some other random car can cause an accident and you can be put in a position to defend yourself just because of you were previously drinking. Thats the main reason I avoid it if at all possible.

I'm just glad you saw the reality check and didn't just write it off as lucky.

God bless,

Thats why you put up sunshades. LOL ! If anyone on here has been to 6th street in austin, I park my ride under the over pass and went to sleep. The Tinted windows help also and the luggage
cover also.

But in any case lesson learn and U and I will live another day.

i'm afraid i too am guilty of d&d, but after seeing some of the accidents i saw during my clinical rotations as an EMT, i will never get behind the wheel intoxicated! i even shyed away from drinking altogether. the sad part is that drunk drivers often take others down with them
