Default Anyone a dodge guy?

I picked up a 99 3/4 ton dodge with a v10 for dirt cheap recently. Thing is, it needs the tranny rebuilt. I believe it has the 47RE transmission. Autozone says it has a 46RE. How are the two of them different?

the 6 and 7 are duty ratings if I remember right. Its like 4 is # of speeds. 7 is duty rating. R is rear drive. and E is for electronic. Hope that helps

i think that the v10 was the 46RE and the diesels for that year were the 47RE

Not much difference at all. Clutch count in a few clutch packs is different. Same shift kit fits both. Very durable tranny. Its basicly a 727 Torque Flight with a OD unit glued on the back end. Built a few of them.

The bellhousing on the 47re has a removable cover on the bottom, so if the bellhousing is solid its a 46re. I think the 47re was only on the diesels though.

My Cummins has a 47RE, not sure on the V10. I'd call Goerend Transmission and ask them. Google it.

There are plenty of guys who are familiar with Dodge here.

This is what Wikipedia says about the subject:

Transmissions
Transmissions for the Ram were the lower geared A500/42RH-RE for light duty applications found behind the 3.9 L V6, the A518/46RH-RE for more heavy duty applications found behind the 5.2 L and 5.9 L V8 engines, and the A618/47RH-RE for heavy duty use behind the V10 and Cummins engines. The 47RH was used in 1994 and 1995 model years, while the 47RE was used from 1996 through 2002.

Only problem with that info is that the 2003 year of the 3rd Gen's has 47RE's also. But I was pretty sure the V10 had the 47RE since the V10 stators sometimes get used in aftermarker TQ converters.

Ross what you got done to that 2008?
