Default Starter problem?

Hopped in my wife's Suburban Z71, turned the key, everything came on normal (lights, radio, gauges etc.) and it "kinda" turned-over. (No ticking sound like the battery is dead)

I turned the ignition off then on again and had the same result. Then I turned the ignition one last time and left it on (as to force it to turn-over) it struggled and to no avail trukie-no-startie.

I can only guess starter (Damit Jim!...I'm a computer geek not a mechanic) Is there a way to troubleshoot this?

Option A:
I would like to try to fix this my-self, If I can get my fat *** under the truck

Option B:
Invite some peeps over for pizza and beer Saturday and have a car-fixn' party. Whoever replaces the part will get a little cash on top of the food and refreshments.

This is more reason why I need to hit the treadmill

I would assume starter as well. I'm not sure on a suburban, but on my mom's silverado, it's pretty easy to get to. If you were closer, I'd help you out for some free pizza! haha.
(Btw- Do this on wednesday and you get a free pizza just showing up in your Camaro from Papa Johns.)

Thanks!

Could it be the fuel pump?
